The European Innovation Council has been active since 2018 as part of the #horizon2020 program to accelerate innovation within #europe. The EIC continues as part of the #horizoneurope program. I just went through their annual report to see where they stand after just 5 years of founding. Some impressive stats from the report: - 70 billion EUR portfolio of deep tech companies from within EU - More than 500 startups have been supported by the fund - 12 billion EUR follow on investments and 125 signed deals - 8 unicorns (>1 billion) and 15 centaurs (>100 million) in the portfolio - 68% revenue growth I am closely following the evolution of this landscape as the #deeptech industry continues to grow within Europe. The next 5 to 10 years will be crucial in converting some of these early innovations. #innovation #europeanunion #technology #ecosystem #research

Some of the main areas the EIC aims to address include: 1. Artificial Intelligence (AI) - Supporting advancements in AI technology, including its applications across various industries. 2. Quantum Computing - Promoting European leadership in quantum technologies, as seen with investments in startups. 3. Green Technologies - Encouraging innovations in green energy and circular economy technologies, aligning with the EU’s broader goals for sustainability and combating climate change. 4. Healthcare Technologies - Fostering developments in health tech, particularly those addressing the digital transformation of healthcare systems and medical innovation. 5. ICT (Information and Communication Technology) - Enhancing Europe’s capacity in ICT, which includes a focus on digital infrastructure and next-gen communication technologies like 5G and beyond. EIC Accelerator open call on virtual worlds and Industry 5.0: Do you have a high-impact innovative technology, product, service or business model that could create new markets or disrupt existing ones in Europe and even worldwide? Are you a start-up or a small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) with the ambition and commitment to scale up? Are you looking for substantial funding, but the risks involved are too high for private investors alone to invest the full amount needed? If your answers to the above questions are ‘yes’, then the EIC Accelerator may be the right funding scheme for you. The European Innovation Council work programme 2024 opens a funding opportunity for “Enabling virtual worlds and augmented interaction in high-impact applications to support the realisation of Industry 5.0”. The specific objective of the challenge is to support the development and deployment of advanced virtual worlds technology solutions for industry which are human centric, sustainable, and resilient in their design and/or user contexts.
