It was an honour to speak yesterday at the Embassy Of Estonia on a great panel, including Luukas Ilves (former CIO of the government of Estonia), Liisa Pakosta (Minister of Justice and Digital Affairs), chaired by my colleague Andrew Cole. At a moment when Europe is grappling with how to build corporate champions, it was a timely conversation about the role that government plays in enabling and demanding a healthy technology ecosystem. We touched on important topics such as culture, skills, and how government can be a savvier buyer of emerging generative AI capabilities. Many thanks to Viljar Lubi and Kati Laus for organising, and for contributions from Gina Gill Sarah Lampert Bailey R.Ros-Mari Mitova for an engaging discussion.

💥 Did you know, 70% of public procurement teams surveyed by PUBLIC in the UK do not consider environmental factors when buying ICT? This risks missing out on a huge opportunity to cut carbon emissions and reduce environmental impact. 🌱 By encouraging decision-makers to factor in the environmental credentials of vendors during the procurement stage, we can ensure suppliers meet certain green standards and help reduce this impact. In the UK, that means turning to procurement approaches that reference environmental criteria, as well as existing environmental labels and standards, for guidance when writing new ICT procurements. Our guide provides concrete examples of how public buyers in the UK can run greener ICT procurements and make more environmentally responsible choices when buying goods and services: ✳️ Minimising consumption. ✳️ Maximising the life-span of products. ✳️ Reusing existing products. ✳️ Choosing low-impact goods and services. ✳️ Considering the end-of-life phase. Making greener tech choices doesn’t have to be difficult! Feel free to use the practical tools and step-by-step guidance in our full guide below ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/euwvqUJD #SustainableProcurement #greentech #NetZero #SocialValue #greenprocurement, Johnny Hugill, Leyre Villaizan Herrero, Florence Mayo, Sam Mingoia, Ryan Shea, Alexander de Carvalho, Crown Commercial Service, Open Contracting Partnership, Volodymyr Tarnay, Kristen Green MCIPS, Gavin Hayman
