This #BlackHistoryMonth, we’re taking a deep dive into achieving equity in STEM and specifically addressing the inclusion of young Black girls in computer science education. Knowing how to code is crucial to get into computer science, but to ensure that students from underrepresented backgrounds not only get into the field but also thrive in it, we need to focus on three other things besides coding skills. These include the breadth of our social networks, the strength of our support systems, and the availability of mentorship opportunities, all of which contribute significantly to students’ success in their computer science education. #ComputerScience #STEMequity Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/esQv-fCT

Northeastern University Miami had the privilege of hosting Kode With Klossy's "Summer Camp," a coding program for underrepresented young adults with little to no experience. To learn more about who made it possible, & how our missions are aligned, see 👇. (1) KwK: Karlie Kloss, Osi Imeokparia, Kariann Kloss, Madainn Krall, & team. From 21 participants in 2015 to 3,000 this Summer - what a journey. Can't wait to support you again for a 4th year! (2) Northeastern University's Center For Inclusive Computing: Carla E. Brodley, Caitlin Kidder, Nat Grillo, & team. Changing the face of tech across higher education, including locally with Florida International University & Miami Dade College. (3) Khoury College of Computer Sciences: Elizabeth Mynatt, Gail Fitzgerald, Dominic (Dom) R., & Kimberly Riley McCrimmon who flew in to be with us. Since it's origin in 2013 there are now Align programs in CS, Data Science, & Cybersecurity, & a presence at 8 campuses. (4) Miami Teammates: Many hands, but in particular Ana Capdevielle for the photography. Also Juan Gonzalez, Ed.S, & Kayla Lavelle who the cohort LOVED, & who ensured everything ran smoothly.
