Breaking down the path to sustainable food systems through #RegenerativeAgriculture Today, our #food system is in crisis. Not only does the food sector contribute to one-third of global #GHGemissions, but it also drives nutrient runoff, synthetic chemical use, and significant #biodiversity loss. These environmental impacts stem largely from agricultural practices, where over 70% of emissions occur “behind the farm gate.” For corporates and consumers, this broken system presents both a challenge and a unique opportunity to rebuild with sustainable solutions. But regenerative agriculture offers a path forward. It is estimated that if just under half of the land that is currently available for regenerative agriculture were to transition, it could result in a total reduction of up to 23 gigatonnes of CO2e by 2050. Supporting regenerative agriculture delivers extensive benefits for both companies and farmers. Companies can achieve measurable sustainability goals, reducing Scope 3 emissions and increasing resilience across their #supplychains. Farmers can benefit financially from #carboncredits and ecosystem service payments while adopting long-term, resilient practices. Together, these benefits drive a shift towards a healthier food system and foster positive environmental change. Agreena https://lnkd.in/dZFTVivw

Sustainability is ingrained in our processes. No pun intended. As we celebrate World Environment Day, let's pause and reflect. 🌱 From the food we eat to the products we use, our choices have a profound impact on the health of the planet. That's why, at Benexia, we've made it our mission to prioritize #sustainability in everything we do. From our zero-waste production processes to our reliance on solely rainwater for agriculture, we're committed to reducing our environmental #footprint every step of the way. Regenerative agriculture is a holistic approach that nourishes both the land and the communities that depend on it. We ensure that every #chia seed we source preserves the soil it grows in. 🌎 Take our chia oil, for example. Extracted through cold-pressing and without the use chemicals or solvents, it leaves behind a nutrient-rich residue that we don't let go to waste. Instead, we micro-mill it to obtain fiber and protein, taking advantage of the nutritional value of every seed and minimizing waste in the process! #zerowaste #regenerativeagriculture #chiaoil #Benexia

𝐔𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬 The term "sustainable development" is increasingly prevalent across various sectors, including food and electronics. But what does it really mean? Sustainable development is defined as "development that meets the present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." In agriculture and food, sustainable growth requires utilizing natural resources in a way that regenerates their productive capacity while minimizing harmful ecosystem impacts. Since WWII, agriculture has seen dramatic changes due to new technologies, mechanization, increased chemical use, and government policies favoring maximum production and lower food prices. However, these advancements have come with significant environmental and social costs. Issues such as topsoil depletion, groundwater contamination, air pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, the decline of family farms, new health threats, economic concentration in food industries, and the disintegration of rural communities have emerged as consequences. Today, the movement for sustainable agriculture integrates three main goals: environmental health, economic profitability, and social equity. 𝙎𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙜𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙎𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝘼𝙜𝙧𝙞𝙘𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝙌𝙪𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙁𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣: Provide nutritious food without harming the environment, reducing the carbon footprint. 𝘈𝘥𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘊𝘭𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘤 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘗𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘴: Manage adverse climatic changes and pests by involving all stakeholders. Strategies include planting hedgerows for natural pest control and using diverse crop blends to confuse pests. 𝘙𝘦𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘭𝘦𝘳 𝘗𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘦𝘴: Use eco-friendly packaging alternatives to reduce environmental impact. 𝘙𝘦𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘈𝘨𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘙𝘶𝘯𝘰𝘧𝘧: Implement water management practices to prevent harmful substance biomagnification in water bodies. 𝘌𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘤 𝘗𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘴: Support farmers in adopting sustainable practices to alleviate economic pressures and reduce pesticide reliance. 𝘚𝘢𝘧𝘦 𝘍𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘈𝘤𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴: Ensure food safety and nutritional quality by minimizing or eliminating toxic residues, often through food cooperatives and a comprehensive food systems approach.
