Lundberg Family Farms is one of the pioneers in the American sustainable food industry. The multigenerational farm has been practicing sustainable agriculture since its formation in 1937. It was one of the first to adopt organic farming practices, and is now the leading Regenerative Organic Certified food brand with its rice products. Brita Lundberg, fourth-generation farmer, will share the company’s experiences at the Sustainable Foods Summit, hosted in San Francisco on 22-23 January. We have been at the Cosmoprof India trade show this week. It is exciting to see how sustainability is becoming important in the Indian cosmetics industry. We have met pioneering brands, such as KHEONI, which has developed carbon-negative body butter crayon. Our seminar on the Global Natural & Organic Cosmetics market was well received by the audience. We highlighted market trends in Asia, and gave growth projections. We also hosted a panel on sustainability innovations in the cosmetics industry that involved stimulating discussions. The panel spoke about the need to educate consumers to build awareness, importance of green formulations, the need for traceability and transparency, as well as the need to source locally. Ecovia Intelligence will continue to encourage sustainability in the beauty industry next year by hosting such seminars and panels. #personalcareproducts #cosmetictrends #organicbeauty #greenbeauty #organiccosmetics #sustainablecosmetics #naturalcosmetics Cosmoprof India #Cosmotalks #Cosmotrends

California is looking to become the first American state to formally define regenerative agriculture. The California Department of Food & Agriculture has set up a work group to formally define regenerative agriculture for state policies and programs. The draft definition is expected at the beginning of January. If widely adopted, it could become a model for federal definition. We shall be featuring regenerative agriculture at our Sustainable Foods Summit in San Francisco on 22-23rd January. Virginia Jameson from the California Department of Food & Agriculture will be speaking about the definition at the summit. We shall also give an update on leading regenerative agriculture voluntary standards, mainstreaming issues, and supply chains. More details are on https://lnkd.in/etBFRVE You can learn about the California definition in this news article: https://lnkd.in/eYNqqkxj #sustainablefoods #foodindustry #foodtrends #sustaianableagriculture #regenerativeagriculture #foodtrends #foodingredients #organicfood #SFSNA25

As sustainability has become an integral part of the cosmetics industry, it is becoming increasingly common for operators to make green claims about their products. I was recently at the In-cosmetics Asia and Cosmoprof Asia trade shows. Some of the things I saw were... ▪️ Self-designated organic logos on cosmetic products and marketing materials ▪️ Carbon claims, such as zero carbon and carbon conscious ▪️ Clean beauty and cruelty-free claims ▪️ A myriad of vegan logos ▪️ Plastic packaging marketed as meeting Sustainable Development goals ▪️ The natural, organic, and herbal terms often used interchangeably ▪️ Unusual claims like non-toxic, plant-derived, healthy formula, etc. Green symbols and logos are increasingly used to make cosmetic ingredients, packaging, and products look sustainable. Unfortunately, few would meet third party standards. The EU Green Claims directive is widely expected to halt misleading and unsubstantiated claims in the European market, however such claims are likely to continue in other regions. We will continue to promote third party sustainability standards, such as NATRUE - The International Natural and Organic Cosmetics Association, COSMOS-standard AISBL, The Vegan Society, Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), etc. and highlight best-practices in green claims and marketing at the Sustainable Cosmetics Summit next year. Global sales of natural & organic cosmetics are projected to reach USD 14 billion this year. In our new report, we highlight market trends & developments since the pandemic. Some of the highlights are… ✔️ North America and Europe have the largest markets, with combined revenue share of over 80%,. However, the Asian market is showing the highest market growth. ✔️ The US has the largest natural & organic cosmetics market; the market share of total cosmetics is 4.7%. ✔️ Certification is becoming more important. COSMOS-standard AISBL and NATRUE - The International Natural and Organic Cosmetics Association are the leading international standards, with the highest adoption rates in western European countries. ✔️ Multinational corporations, such as Unilever, L’Oreal and Estee Lauder, have taken strong market positions. These companies have acquired brands and / or developed natural lines. ✔️ Rising consumer awareness of contentious chemicals in cosmetics & toiletries will fuel market growth in the coming years. I hosted a panel on green ingredients at Cosmoprof Asia yesterday. The panel comprised representatives from O'right SA, Alteya Organics, and ECOCERT Group. Some of the key take-aways... ✔️ A wide range of green ingredients are available to formulators, however green means different things to organisations. To Alteya Organics, it means certified organic raw materials, whilst to O'right it means upcycled ingredients. Others consider green to be natural, renewable feedstock, bio-based or plant-based materials. ✔️ There are more issues associated with green ingredients than conventional ingredients. Regulations are creating more bureaucracy when importing natural & organic raw materials. One panelist stated climate change was affecting plant material yields and also leading to variable quality. There is also a need for more transparency in supply chains. ✔️ Greenwashing is a major issue facing natural & organic cosmetic brands. The panel welcomed the EU Green Claims Directive, however its scope is unfortunately limited to the European market. The latter point is quite pertinent at this trade show where many companies are making unsubstantiated green claims. Sustainability is trending in the Asian cosmetics industry, however the actions of the ethical brands could become overlooked as many organisations jump on the green bandwagon.
