AD UNBLOCKED Publicis dropped their 3Q #earnings yesterday, and gave us all some good signs for the #advertising economy. Their net revenues were up 5.6% across the board - after some uneven years in the mAd business, this is welcome news; perhaps most especially for Europe, which following some quite lean years, offered nearly 5% YoY growth. However, as I've said for some time, the greatest growth for this global ad player was in the three regions boasting the world's fastest growing economies: APAC, Middle East/Africa & LATAM. Those of us who enjoyed the benefits of growing/maturing ad economies over the last decade need to learn that real growth in the decade ahead will NOT come from our own back yards. For my friends in America or Europe looking for the NEXT great areas of truly explosive growth, my strong advice is to venture beyond the edges of your home field. The solution? 🟠 Garnier Philippines, with media planning and strategy by Wavemaker Philippines, mounted its first ever 24h livestream marathon on TikTok last summer to launch their new overnight serum. No movie magic, no shortcuts, no commercial breaks. Just 24 hours of live beauty entertainment that worked wonders at driving engagement and sales 🧾📈 What can global brands learn from this campaign? 🤔🤔 Carlo de Leon, Wavemaker Philippines' Client President advised "Shopping on TikTok is huge in this category. This week I read the article in AdExchanger about Why Publicis is Winning. https://lnkd.in/ef8qpFi7 In it, the author lists: 1. Bold technology strategy (Publicis bought Epsilon for $4.4bn in 2019) 2. Progressive Leadership 3. Smart deal making as the 3 key ingredients he believes are the root of our new business success. I'd have to agree, to two out of the three, at least. When I came on board in 2021 to help clients and prospective clients realise the power of Epsilon and how an ID and data-led approach would be key to their growth, in new business pitches, I had the leadership of the exceptional Nagmeh Taheri to guide me and help me to drive that collaboration within our businesses. Naggy's Progressive Leadership put into practice what enabled us to be the best. As Terence Kawaja says in his article: " The Power of One centralised platform federates data to all Publicis agencies. This strategy creates a great narrative in pitches for global marketing contracts which helps explain Publicis' extraordinary win rate". Today, she is off to sprinkle her magic elsewhere. Our work with OMD Worldwide and Amplified Intelligence across the global reveals that - 🔍 AR Lenses capture active attention more similarly to Cinema or TV - 5X more active attention vs. other mobile in-feed social platforms 📈 💰 Snapchat AR Lens pays off for brands due to its immersive nature, generating an average 53% uplift in brand choice and 31% uplift in brand loyalty 🛍 All AR Lens generate high levels of active attention, with Shoppable Lens being especially effective for driving brand choice. 💡 Data will also be leveraged within Omnicom Media Group’s planning tool, Omni, to drive better outcomes by planning to each campaign’s specific attention requirements and attributes. Great to see Publicis continuining its impressive growth. One particular sentence stands out from this FT article when comparing Publicis growth vs WPP & it lines up perfectly with the similar trajectory of Retail Media.... That is Publicis' focus on scaling its data capability to ensure it remains competitive against the larger tech businesses ala Meta & Google. There is one thing I agree with & one thing I think the article misses. 1.) The article cites "precision of targeting" as a key benefit which is exactly what you hear from the Retail Media juggernauts at Tesco in their recent product announcements. Exact quote is enabling "precision targeting at scale" (link in the comments). The other killer nugget is the focus on using transactional insight build full funnel marketing plans vs traditional datasets. Eg why target someone who has searched for Vegan content - when you can understand those actually buying these products. So the above is great but....... the real value of improved insight is & has to be.... 2.) Measurement. What the article doesn't discuss is where independent data is vital - which is in understanding and the value of our marketing. Where Google & Meta have competitive advantage is in how measurable they are - something that will only increase as 3rd party cookies are phased out. Understanding marketing outside of these platforms is what will be vital for brands to gain their own competitive advantage & potentially a completely different insight all together. Again this is where retailer in-store data becomes so exciting and the examples from Co-op more recently on the impact of in-store advertising vs digital could or should see brands questioning their budget allocations. I joined in the sweltering August of 2023, and after a year of optimizing campaigns, crunching numbers, and perfecting the art of the client email, I'm signing off. 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬: Mastered the art of turning coffee into marketing strategies. ☕ Became fluent in a new language: "KPI." Perfected my "I'm on mute" Team face. 🔇 Finally understand what a "cookie" actually is (and it's not what I thought). 🍪 And the most glorious highlight of all… freedom from my toxic manager!
