If you're a Marketer you've likely gotten plenty of marketing advice. And not just from the gurus, although also that... but within your own company. And whether you work with 20 or 2,000 people, ideas are everywhere - about the website, the events, the podcast (or if you should start one), how high your last webinar registration should have been, and your attribution model. Some ideas are great!  Some are good, some are… not good… and that's exactly the Marketer's balancing act — how do you value AND evaluate inputs without compromising on your strategy. Here’s a start: - Consider if the idea supports your core objectives. If yes, go for it!  - If idea has promise, set up an a/b test to prove out value before going all in.  - Understand the root problem the idea is trying to solve. Maybe the provided solution wasn't the right one, but knowing a problem exists is useful. - Keep an idea vault in case you want to revisit. Some ideas may need time to marinate or come at the right time. It's not easy being in Marketing, so if you're a Marketer, you got this 🫶

🎧 I was listening to a marketing podcast this morning, and one of the guests mentioned how marketers need the right tools to get the right results. True. But as someone new to the field of marketing, I've noticed that I hear this a lot. Today, it made me think about how we can often overvalue our tools and undervalue our own efforts. 🎻 From a previous post, you may know that I play the cello. Recently, my teacher commented that I needed to purchase new strings and a new bow (tools). After she told me this I immediately began to hate practicing. All I could focus on were my bad tools, and if I could just get new strings and a new bow my playing would improve. Until my teacher let me use HER bow in my lesson. My playing improved...a little, but it also highlighted a huge area for improvement. ➡ I've been reminding myself of this every time I pull my cello out to practice. If I really want to see a huge improvement when I invest in a new bow and strings, I need to put the work in now. this is true of my cello and marketing tools. THE MORAL: your tools are only as good as you are.
