I am currently at the Science Podcast Barcamp GanzOhr2024 in Leipzig.
One key takeaway for me was the ongoing challenge in social media: balancing communication and reach. As a podcaster in the field of mathematics, I often post only content and no engagement bait. It even feels wrong, weird and spammy. All this algorithm fishing for the viral post. But everybody does it and recommends it. Should every post aim to maximize reach, or is there room for genuine, in-depth communication on say Instagram? Or maybe Instagram is a lost case for math communication anyways?
For a podcast like Eigenraum, Mastodon seems to strike the balance just fine, but engagement bait must be very subtle there. Just content is fine and it feels good to focus on math, be subtle, be mysterious:

People tell me, I must always end with a call to action. So, how do you balance reach and communication in your social media strategy?
