🌍 This Sunday marks European Car Free Day, part of the larger European Mobility Week, and even though it falls on a weekend this year, it’s still a powerful reminder of how we can reduce our environmental impact through our daily choices. At DEKRA Technology & Services, we are dedicated to sustainability, which is why we encourage our team to use public transport. To make this easier, we offer a benefit that covers the cost of public transportation within the city. Our office is conveniently accessible by public transport, so opting for greener travel is both practical and beneficial. 🚇 We’ve also made sure that cycling is an option, with dedicated bike storage facility on-site for those who prefer to pedal to work. 🚲 By taking small steps, like choosing public transit, cycling or even walking, we can all reduce our carbon footprint and contribute to a healthier environment. Let’s carry this mindset beyond the week and into our daily lives. 🌱 #EuropeanCarFreeDay #EuropeanMobilityWeek #SustainabilityAtWork #PublicTransport

Opt for walking, cycling, or using public transit for your daily commute or errands whenever possible. Consider carpooling or ride-sharing with friends, family, or coworkers to reduce the number of vehicles on the road and share transportation costs. Research electric vehicles (EVs) and alternative fuel vehicles as environmentally-friendly alternatives to conventional gasoline-powered cars. Share information about the benefits of green transportation on social media using #ECO30Impact, and inspire others to join the movement towards sustainable travel.

Every year on June 3rd, the world celebrates #WorldBicycleDay, recognizing „the uniqueness, longevity and versatility of the bicycle, which has been in use for two centuries, and that it is a simple, affordable, reliable, clean and environmentally fit sustainable means of transport” (UN). In April 2024, the EU adopted the #EuropeanDeclarationOnCycling, a major policy milestone for achieving net zero goals, enabling active, healthy mobility, and redeeming cycling as full-fledged mode of transport. It includes clear commitments for developing safe and coherent cycling networks in cities, better links with public transport, parking spaces and recharging points for e-bikes. If you are interested in practical solutions, guidance and inspiration for advancing these goals, check out our „Pedaling to sustainability - Developing world-class cycling infrastructure at the functional area level” guide (https://lnkd.in/dXchXe8h), published as part of the „Functional Areas in the EU” project. The guide focuses on three dimensions: 🚲 transport (mobility, commuting, bike-sharing, bike-to-work, MaaS) 🏍 logistics (SULP - Sustainable Urban Logistics Plans, cargo bikes) 🚵♀️ leisure and tourism (EuroVelo network, slow and sustainable tourism) Its goal is to support the development of well-connected, safe and attractive cycling networks, within and beyond local administrative borders, and offers insights from a weatlh of cities and functional areas in the EU. #cycling #sustainablemobility #activecities #netzerocities #functionalareas

🌍🚲 Exciting News from #VeloCity2024 in Ghent, Belgium! 🚲🌍 We are thrilled to share that Lucie Anderton CEnv, Head of Sustainability at UIC - International union of railways #UICrail, participated in the Velo-city conference held from June 18-21. Trains may not always take people door to door, but when paired with bicycles, they offer one of the most sustainable ways to travel. The #European project RAIL4CITIES, backed by Europe's Rail Joint Undertaking, has been conducting a series of Living Labs across Europe to explore how to create more seamless connections between trains and bikes, helping people enjoy more car-free days. At #VeloCity2024, Lucie Anderton @uicrail shared key findings with the audience, emphasizing the crucial role of stations as mobility hubs. “Stations are key, they have the power to convene active and collective low carbon transport as a mobility hub.” Key Takeaways: ✔️ Stations must prioritize space for cycling services over cars, with safe and convenient bike storage and signage. ✔️ Technology services can simplify cycling with combined ticketing and up-to-date bike-friendly information. ✔️ Railways can collaborate with cycling partners to enhance their offerings for cyclists and make sustainable tourism more attractive. Together, we can create a more sustainable future by making rail and cycling the go-to options for travel! #Sustainability #Rail4cities #Cycling #GreenTravel #SustainableTourism #ActiveTransport

In today's world, combating carbon emissions is paramount — and using a bike might just be the pedal-powered solution we need 🚴♂️ According to a study led by researchers from the University of Oxford’s Transport Studies Unit: cycling, e-biking or walking can help tackle the climate crisis – even if you swap the car for active transport just 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘆 a week. So, if utilizing a bike can make that much of an impact, let's talk #bikesharing. Bike-sharing, also known as bike rental or public bicycle sharing, allows users to access bikes conveniently from designated areas or docking stations, promoting sustainable travel alternatives. Future Transport-News pedals through some bike-sharing advantages and disadvantages here: https://loom.ly/Bq1oqis 💬 With these factors in mind, how can cities and businesses optimize bike-sharing systems for sustainable urban mobility?

Steve Jobs compared a human's efficiency of locomotion with various species. Where do you think we ranked? On average, cycling makes 1.5% of our annual mileage versus >70% by car and plane. Transport is the largest source of emissions for half of the countries, worldwide. Steve was right that we are “tool builders”. At RouteZero, we’re building the tools to dramatically amplify efficient travel. #sustainability (Credits below).

Changing commuter preferences 🚲 Urban mobility is evolving as cycling becomes a viable alternative to car travel. Here’s what’s happening: 🚲 Embracing cycling: 47% of Europeans are now more inclined to cycle, driven by improved infrastructure and environmental awareness. Cities like Paris and Amsterdam report bicycles outnumbering cars during peak hours. (Source: European Commission) 🚲 Choosing electric and cargo bikes: Thanks to their efficiency and ability to handle longer distances, people are increasingly opting for these options over cars or public transportation, driving the demand for more bike storage solutions. (Source: European Commission) 🚲 Reimagining transportation modes: According to a McKinsey report, 22.5% of car trips could be replaced by micromobility options like bicycles and e-scooters - encouragement is key! (Source: McKinsey & Company) Smart bicycle lockers are essential in supporting this change by providing secure, convenient parking solutions for cyclists. Therefore, let’s paddle into the future together! 💡🔗 https://lnkd.in/ey9pVMDV Let’s promote sustainable commuting together! 🌍💚 #SmartMobility #CyclingInfrastructure #SustainableTransport #ParkMyBike

🌱 A Green Corporate Fleet without bikes ? 🚴♀️❌ The Greening Corporate Fleet initiative by the European Commission is a key step in decarbonizing corporate fleets, but it’s missing a critical element : bikes are not included. This omission overlooks a unique opportunity to: ✅ Make bikes accessible to companies and their employees through incentives. ✅ Foster truly sustainable mobility for daily commutes and professional trips. ✅ Democratize the use of bikes, a solution that is ecological, economical, and perfectly aligned with Europe’s climate goals. It’s vital to remember that bikes play a central role in the Mobility Transition Pathway, the European Cycling Declaration, and the 100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities initiative. These frameworks recognize cycling as a cornerstone of achieving Europe’s net-zero ambitions. By excluding bikes, this initiative risks undermining these efforts and missing a simple, effective, and accessible solution to accelerate the green transition. Bikes must be prioritized alongside cars ! #SustainableMobility #Cycling #GreenTransition #GreeningCorporateFleet #EuropeanCyclingDeclaration #NetZero #Cycling
