I recently enjoyed a thought-provoking conversation between Scott J. Allen, Ph.D., Ph.D., and Dave Ulrich on the value of leadership, management, and lifelong learning and development. Their insights on human capital development and cultivating better leaders for tomorrow resonated deeply with me. In my experience, it's all about training your relief. The Leadership Challenge®: A Wiley Brand is an excellent resource for coaching emerging leaders. Dave's book, The Leadership Code, especially stood out to me. While navigating a new and unfamiliar role nearly 15 years ago, it helped me understand the essentials of leadership at both the personal and team levels—what Dave calls the Leader Source Code. Dave's book, The Leadership Code, caught my eye while serving in a new, unfamiliar role, gets after the core of leadership, the basics, at the personal and team level - the Leader Source Code - and from that we build. Personal: Human Capital Development and Talent Management. For the Team: Strategy (Where are we going) and Execution (Empower members, Enabling, Modeling the Way). For personal development, it emphasizes Human Capital Development and Talent Management. For team growth, it focuses on Strategy (where we're heading) and Execution (empowering members, enabling success, and modeling the way). So, how do you lead? Your leadership style—how you "Leader"—matters immensely. It’s about building leadership and talent capabilities driven by external stakeholders, not self-interest. #Phronesis #Leadership #HumanCapital #TalentManagement #Strategy #Execution #TheLeadershipChallenge https://lnkd.in/etV4BKs6

For decades, Shell’s scenarios have supported the decision-making of Shell leaders, academics, governments, and businesses. Scenario thinking enables organizations to establish possible visions of the future in the form of scenarios. These scenarios enable decision-makers to think through the different ways in which the environment of their institutions could evolve in the future, based on different sets of assumptions. One of the companies that is best known for its scenario-thinking activity is Shell. Jeremy Bentham led this activity in Shell between 2006 and his retirement in 2022 as Shell Scenarios & strategy Leader and VP Global Business Environment. In this episode of the Leadership 2.0 podcast, I am interviewing Jeremy Bentham about scenario thinking and leadership. During our conversation, Jeremy and I discussed the following topics: 0️⃣1️⃣ What scenario thinking is and what is it not 0️⃣2️⃣ Why organizations should invest in scenario thinking 0️⃣3️⃣ The development of scenario thinking in the past decades 0️⃣4️⃣ Why Shell started sharing scenarios with external stakeholders 0️⃣5️⃣ The importance of engagement in scenario thinking 0️⃣6️⃣ Why and how scenario thinking could lead to wiser decisions 0️⃣7️⃣ Strategic character 0️⃣8️⃣ Can scenario thinking contribute to addressing crises our society faces 0️⃣9️⃣ The Dodo club (recently established by Jeremy) 1️⃣0️⃣ Final thoughts on the topic of scenario thinking You can watch or listen to this podcast episode on: ▶ YouTube https://lnkd.in/dketutAp ▶ Apple Podcasts https://lnkd.in/du5YFBkM ▶ Spotify https://lnkd.in/dFKnaSvP 🖋 The show notes contain links to resources about scenario thinking - including a 'How to' guide. This is the newest research paper written on business owners' use of fractional executive leadership. Sifiso Pule, Head Of Strategy at Omnicom in Johannesburg, South Africa, recently conducted research and authored his MBA thesis on interim and fractional leadership for the Henley Business School at the University of Reading in England. Sifiso shares what his research showed drives businesses to use fractional executive leaders, the most current data on the prevalence of businesses using fractional leaders, who it does or does not work for, and what he found most surprising in his research. I also asked Sifiso what triggered his interest in the topic such that he researched it so in-depth, about his personal background, and his future plans. Leadership Lessons from the Frontline: A Conversation with Minister Felix Ellis " Leadership isn't just about the position you hold; it's about the preparedness and focus on the people you're serving. I learned this lesson early on, reflecting on my time as head boy in primary school. It was a humbling start that showed me the significance of servant leadership." A great quote from Felix Ellis MP in our podcast with this amazing community leader. 🤝 #LeadershipJourney #ServantLeadership
