Wolf's Edge Integrators: world’s largest team of Fractional COOs • Author: Fractional Leadership: Landing Executive Talent You Thought Was Out of Reach • Speaks on fractional executive leadership
What's the most surprising thing about fractional executive leadership revealed by a comprehensive research study?
Find out in this podcast interview with Sifiso Pule, Head Of Strategy at Omnicom and author of the newest research study on fractional leadership.
Learn from Sifiso about who fractional executive leadership DOESN'T work for, who it DOES work for, and what's driving an increasing number of executives pursuing a fractional executive practice.
This is the newest research paper written on business owners' use of fractional executive leadership.
Sifiso Pule, Head Of Strategy at Omnicom in Johannesburg, South Africa, recently conducted research and authored his MBA thesis on interim and fractional leadership for the Henley Business School at the University of Reading in England.
Sifiso shares what his research showed drives businesses to use fractional executive leaders, the most current data on the prevalence of businesses using fractional leaders, who it does or does not work for, and what he found most surprising in his research.
I also asked Sifiso what triggered his interest in the topic such that he researched it so in-depth, about his personal background, and his future plans.

Confidence is NOT the absence of doubt. It's the ability to manage your relationship with doubt. Among the thousands I interviewed for my book, "The Mentally Strong Leader," even the most confident did not have a complete absence of doubt - they talked of their ability to manage that doubt effectively. Some level of doubt exists for all of us. I discuss this, and much more, on the Mahan Tavakoli show, "Partnering Leadership." 🚀 Transforming Leadership: Insights from Aaron Trahan on 𝙎𝙝𝙞𝙛𝙩 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙀𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙖 𝘼𝙜𝙖𝙧 Podcast! 🚀
I recently had the pleasure of hosting Aaron Trahan on the "Shift with Elena Agar" podcast. Aaron shared incredible insights on how leaders can elevate their performance and cultivate a thriving organizational culture. Here are three key takeaways:
🔹 Combat Complacency: Successful leaders can become resistant to feedback and complacent. Aaron highlights the importance of continuously improving by:
- Out-preparing their former selves
- Outworking everyone else
- Outlearning everyone around them
🔹 Setting the Standard: To influence teams effectively, leaders must set and maintain a standard of excellence. Aaron emphasizes:
- Leading by example
- Setting clear boundaries
- Reinforcing and rewarding behaviors that align with desired culture
🔹 Openness and Trust: During challenging times, transparency is crucial. Leaders should:
- Acknowledge mistakes openly
- Explain what went wrong and learned from it
- Maintain transparency to build trust and sustain strong culture
Investing in coaching can accelerate growth and unlock new perspectives. As Aaron reminds us, "How can I improve?" is a powerful question to combat complacency and reveal blind spots.

Really enjoyed this ABC podcast (sorry international contacts, it's just in Australia). Got me thinking about what we associate with good leaders. Some ideas to ponder:
- People listen to good leaders (it's not about just making noise)
- Communication competence is key
- Confidence doesn't equal competence
- We are in "roles" implies that there is an element of theatre to leadership (interesting idea). Being authentic means to know your role at a given time and committing to that role
My favourite quote: "Confidence is an act of equality. There is no one better than you AND no one less than you". Look at people with compassion and curiosity.
If you're looking to improve your leadership skills, I highly recommend listening to this episode of Cracking The Code. Michael Bitar interviews Brian Smith about leadership. Brian has been a mentor to me for over a decade.
The podcast talks about the difference between being a manager and a leader and why leadership is lacking today. They spend time discussing leading with empathy and being a servant. Two things stuck out to me:
1) Brian's comments on how the best leaders are tough and have high standards. I believe toughness is something that needs to be stressed more today. Throughout history, the best leaders held themselves and others to the highest standards. Under Brian’s leadership, I always felt a sense
of responsibility to exceed expectations, and I never wanted to let him down.
2) Brian understands how his impact touches not only his direct reports but also their families and spouses. He believes that for every person he manages, he indirectly affects 2.5 additional people. For example, if he leads a team of 100 people, his influence touches 350 people. I know firsthand that Brian truly puts his people first and considers the impact of his decisions. I've watched Brian make some difficult leadership decisions. He always did so with respect and compassion.
I'm grateful for the guidance and leadership lessons Brian provided.

Some of the greatest CEOs are known to be driven, decisive, and confident. But this era of unprecedented global change calls for a new style of leadership. In the latest episode of The McKinsey Podcast, #TheJourneyOfLeadershipBook coauthors Hans-Werner Kaas and Ramesh Srinivasan explain how human-centric leaders—those who embrace soft skills like self-awareness, humility, and compassion—are better able to inspire their teams and organizations.
