Ask any corporate affairs professional about the special talent that they bring to an organisation, and they will often cite the ability to 'bring the outside in'. And sometimes the only way to bring that 'outside in' is to go outside, network and discuss the issues of the day with your colleagues and peers in a safe space. The Corporate Affairs Summit last month provided the perfect opportunity to do just that. It may not have been conducted under the Chatham House Rule, but there was great candour from those on stage at the London Stock Exchange who shared their challenges and successes. For some delegates these provided 'lightbulb' moments, for others it was about providing validation for the strategy they currently pursue. Nobody claimed to have all the answers, but some are obviously further along in their thinking about certain issues. What did the attendees hope to get from the day? Well the talented Rob Glass captured some thoughts from delegates as they stopped for a welcome breather.

The most SURPRISING objection I get when talking to senior executives about The Conference Board's Council program? Worry that they somehow aren't qualified enough to participate: - Representing a lesser-known organization - Other member companies *seem* more advanced - They have too many problems they don't know how to solve I get it - most people have similar worries. But the fact of the matter is... ✅ Your challenges are what QUALIFY you for participation. ☝ You were invited to this group by your peers because they want to know how you approach them. ❌ Not because they expect you to have the answers. There are reasons not to join an executive networking group... ...but being afraid you aren't *actually* one of your peers isn't one of them! It doesn't matter if you're... The Head of Talent Acquisition A Chief Sustainability Officer Lead Counsel for Labor & Employment Law An Enterprise Data Leader ☕ Talking to other people in your situation is the best way to overcome these doubts and move forward in your journey. 😬 Don't let worry be the factor that holds you back (from any aspect of your career). And remember...the most comforting thing about Imposter's Syndrome is that it has a name 😉

Leaders of professional associations represent industries or disciplines where members are linked together by a common interest but often have diverse views and interests. As association CEOs grapple with the evolving landscape of societal issues, there is no one-size-fits-all approach. In their most recent blog, CFAR Principal Barry Dornfeld and Manager Daphnie Pierre, MBA, reflect on a recent conversation with a group of Association CEOs and PR and Marketing expert Laura Van Eperen of FOVNDRY and offer strategies for navigating complex social issues. A lot has happened in the last few months. As we all sit sizzling in the ever-unpredictable UK sunshine, our thoughts turn to H1 results and our teams' performances over the tricky first half of 2024 before we set the sights on H2 and, more specifically, that all-important third quarter—the autumn conference season. If we're honest, we always knew H1 would be "a bit up and down" (that's not one of the VP's KPIs), and so it turned out. We've toughed out a General Election (diary chaos), a relatively weak economy (challenging forecasting), global supply chain issues (F&B), and HR challenges (increased cost and recruitment competition). Overall, though, the trend for H1 was positive: ➡ Revenue Per Delegate was up +7.5% ➡ The average number of events per venue was up +7% ...and those are 2 key indicators. There are a few telltale signs that things are starting to cool down, though: ➡ Lead times have decreased by -8.5% ➡ Delegation size has decreased by -12% And those last 2 sets of data contribute to the "a bit up and down" sentiment to H1. Overall, though, the M&E market continues to grow and is forecast to continue the positive upward trend into H2. In other news, did you hear about our revolutionary and ground-breaking event, The Great M&E Debate, which we held at the end of June?
