Considering a move into the private hospitality sector? My consistent advice is always to firstly spend the time to truly understand the demands and constraints of your desired role. Primarily, discretion and privacy are paramount for private clients - I simply can´t stress this enough!!! Be prepared for non-disclosure agreements and detailed background checks. If the thought of this irks you, or you go loopy at the sight of someone remotely famous, this may not be the right fit for you. Your emotional intelligence and professionalism will be highly valued, and will be reflected in your ability to handle circumstances like the changing of plans last-minute - with grace and composure. This is a difficult trait to train into someone so proceed with caution if this is not your natural M.O. Hard skills like cooking, food and beverage service, housekeeping and hosting are almost always a given - so solid prior experience in hotels or upscale restaurants really is a must, and staff transitioning from the airline and yachting industries are highly regarded. Private households are very rarely training grounds, and the roles often require you to work independently, with little to no supervision; demanding a top-tier service level whilst managing multiple requests on the fly! It is rewarding but equally challenging work, often requiring your personal sacrifices, and it´s not for everyone. The company has new London locations planned for both its Fenix and Louis concepts, and the opening of its first international Tattu location, which is due to debut in Dubai next summer. Perched on top of the “world's tallest hotel”, Tattu Dubai will span 25,000 square foot with a restaurant, pool club and late-night bar/lounge offering. The development marks the group's most ambitious project to date. It comes as the company, which secured the new facility through long-standing banking partner NatWest, said in its current financial year, it has seen its revenue and profit performance continue to climb, with revenue expected to reach close to £40m and site Ebitda projected to grow by more than 30% to more than £10m. In the year to 31 December 2023., the group saw existing site revenue rise 10% to £29m, with site Ebitda up 11% to £7.5m and conversion up to 25.6%. At a group level, underlying company Ebitda rose 14.9% to £5.4m delivering gross margin growth and an increase in Ebitda conversion.

The new UK Budget and its Impact on Hospitality: A Manager’s Perspective The recent UK Budget brings significant changes that will directly impact hospitality businesses, especially with increased wage costs and national insurance contributions. Key changes announced: • National Insurance Contribution Increase: Employer contributions will rise from 13.8% to 15%. • Wage Increases: • For workers over 21, the minimum wage will increase by 6.7% to £12.21 per hour (up from £11.44). • For those aged 18-20, the minimum wage will rise from £8.60 to £10 per hour. With labor being one of the highest expenses, these changes add more pressure to maintain profitability. So, what can we do as managers to adapt? Here are some strategies to consider: • Optimized Scheduling: Fine-tune your rota to align with actual demand. I think one of the quickest ways I've seen companies go down, especially in the hospitality sector, is too big of a focus on squeezing every possible skerrick of margin out of each dollar. We absolutely need to do this, up to a point. After that, you are sacrificing employee wellbeing, customer experience and relations, and even your own wellbeing. At some point, there needs to be a change in focus from the margin of that dollar you have, to simply finding new dollars to have a piece of

This year professionally and personally has been the busiest yet for my family and I, but sometimes it's good to step away from the laptop, pause, listen and learn. 💭 This weeks "Making Change:  Facing the Future of the New Workplace Together" event hosted by #14forty & #EurestUK did just that, bringing clients, suppliers, industry experts, thought leaders & innovators all together in the same room to discuss our common challenges. Two key takeaways for me: 1. The Workplace is changing - faster than ever before. Gen Z, our future business leaders, policy makers & innovators are motivated in ways no other generation before has been.
