Over the years, I have been lucky to gain some memorable experiences in the name of leadership training. Nearly 20 years ago, building a rollercoaster out of lolly sticks in a warehouse in Dublin with Joss Mathieson at GSK; a decade later I found myself teetering on the top of a high ropes course in the Santa Cruz mountains with eBay in California with Godert van Dedem and Brian Yamasaki by my side. Fast forward another decade and last week I had the privilege of swapping roles, and sharing some of my own leadership learnings as part of the faculty at World 50 Group NEXT Leader cohort of tomorrow’s leaders. Over four days we explored what makes a great enterprise leader through a mix of storytelling by C-Suite faculty from different companies, sectors, disciplines and geographies plus a powerful business simulation that enabled the group to step into an enterprise leadership mindset to work through a business challenge together, craft and deliver a presentation to the ‘Board’ of faculty members. I was so impressed with the engagement, breadth and depth of ideas coming from the attendees and as ever, I came away feeling I had learnt just as much from them. Midway through the course we had a chance to take a short break and try something new: falconry. As Barry the wise brown barn owl winked slowly at me, I realised he would become the memorable symbol from this experience. A powerful reminder that there is always something new to learn and if we stay open and nurture a growth mindset, we may just get to soar. Many thanks to the fabulous team World 50 Group Nandini Basuthakur Katie Waggamon, Yvonne Wagner, Jessica Thrasher, David Chapman, Klaudia Virkler, Kate Baugher, Anne Roberts, Brooke England Lee And my impressive fellow faculty members Danny Allouche, Marc Borggreven, Patrice Cochin, Rajita D'Souza, Kate Gibson, Aditi Javeri Gokhale, John Jenkins, Oliver Kohlhaas, Serpil Timuray, Michael Willi, #World50 #LeadershipDevelopment #NurturingTalent #InspiringLeaders #ExecutiveLeadership #NEXTLeader

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Fun fact to add: Barry has asymmetrically positioned ears, so he gets the full “picture” by listening from different angles..

Ah yes, the rollercoaster game in Dublin, what a brilliant experience that was! Followed by an amazing Riverdance performance, it was quite an event. Great to see so much wisdom in one photo Claire - and Barry is playing catch up 😉
