NEWS | Yesterday, Mayor Steele accompanied by MP Vance Badawey, Chris Bittle, and Ian Hamilton from HOPA Ports announced two major projects in Port Colborne that are set to transform our local marine sector while protecting the Great Lakes. With the Green Shipping Corridor Program, we’re investing in cleaner technologies and building a more sustainable economy: ✅$13,822,550 million for the Hamilton Oshawa Port Authority to build a biofuel terminal ✅$6,049,800 million for Quebec Stevedoring (QSL) to install shore power, providing power charging facilities to enable vessels to recharge their onboard batteries while docked, reducing reliance on auxiliary engines, and minimizing emissions. These investments are part of our commitment to a sustainable supply chain that respects the environment while driving economic growth. Canada’s ports play a vital role in connecting communities and enabling trade, and through clean infrastructure, we’re creating a resilient, future-ready maritime sector. Together, we’re keeping our supply chains strong and sustainable.

Inland waterways play important role in moving freight, especially commodities in bulk, which normally would be sent by train. But sending containers this way is not uncommon, just that it takes greater skill and effort to create multi-stop trips, so point-to-point is more likely. Therefore, it is harder to see substantial decarbonization gains, as trucking of those containers on this trade lane will remain economically viable. The size of the Seine-Nord Europe project is staggering, involving new infrastructure projects involving as many as 60 bridges, 3 canal bridges, 7 locks, and 700 hectares of environmental plantation. There will be opportunities to create added economic value for the territories it crosses through. Nice win and a challenge for Arcadis France, which is leading the project. #logistics #inland #marine #freight #trade

Ports play a critical role in the global economy by facilitating trade and connecting international markets. They contribute significantly to GDP, employment, and local economies. Ports can be managed by public authorities, private entities, or a combination of both (public-private partnerships). Each model has its advantages and challenges. Increasingly, ports are focusing on sustainable practices to reduce their environmental footprint. This includes initiatives like green port certification, lowering emissions, and promoting renewable energy use. #Ports #Harbours #Docks #Dryport #Wetport #Typesofports #Waterwaytransportation #Waterways #Modeoftransportation #Greentransportation #Largestmodeoftransport

🌊 A Historic Move Towards Zero-Emission Ports! The EPA's Clean Ports Program isn’t just funding infrastructure – it’s funding a cleaner, healthier future. This nearly $3 billion initiative will finance shore power, electric cargo equipment, and advanced drayage truck projects across America, significantly impacting frontline communities. 🌎🚛 These grants support the work of organizations like EDF, which have long advocated for port decarbonization to reduce the environmental burden on low-income and minority communities. However, with $5 billion in requests left unfunded, we see a clear call for greater, ongoing investment. Our journey towards zero-emission ports is underway, but continued collaboration among ports, companies, and policymakers will be crucial for future success. It’s time to build on this momentum and make sustainable ports a national priority! #CleanPorts #ClimateResilience #AirQuality #SustainableTransportation #EnvironmentalJustice

The Committee's submission to the NSW Freight Policy Reform consultation paper advocates for a modern framework that unlocks the Hunter's international gateways and delivers more focus, better policy and investment in the Hunter's freight and supply chains. Thanks to Newcastle Airport Pty Limited, Port of Newcastle, ARTC, Sparke Helmore Lawyers, Turnbull Renewables for your input which helped inform the submission. Our recommendations centre around themes: 🛫 Leverage investment in international capabilities at Newcastle Airport to expand NSW’s air freight. ⚓ Ensuring a level playing field in the development and growth of containerised shipping trade in NSW. 🛤 Leverage established Hunter models for the collaborative planning, capital investment, operations and maintenance to optimise freight and supply chains. 💡 Long-term, integrated planning for NSW freight networks and targeted investment will deliver better outcomes from public and private expenditure. ⚡ A strategic approach to transport upgrades required to deliver and maintain NSW Renewable Energy Zones. ⛈ Network level policy, planning, infrastructure and reform to increase the productivity and sustainability of NSW freight networks in the Hunter while reducing costs and risk for all users. https://lnkd.in/gUYrRhjW

An EDF supported project to investigate establishing a green corridor between Ireland and the UK has won Government backing. The Green Corridor initiative, spearheaded by ferry operators Irish Ferries and Stena Line with support from EDF’s R&D team, environmental consultancy Ricardo plc, Dublin Port, Holyhead Port Authority, and Maynooth University, aims to explore the feasibility of greening the shipping route between Holyhead Port in Wales and Dublin Port. Experts from our R&D team will support work to scope the project’s fuel supply chain and the explore opportunities to source those fuels locally to the ports. The Holyhead to Dublin trade route is one of the busiest between the UK and Ireland, accounting for 74% of all ferry passenger movements between the two countries in 2022. This funding will help to advance the decarbonisation of this critical trade route. Read more: https://ow.ly/pKJx50TPOGV

Today, we at PTSC are honoured to join fellow stakeholder (NGC) in celebrating the opening of this new CNG Filling Station to the public, located on Cove Estate, Tobago. This station marks a significant milestone in our commitment to sustainable transportation and environmental stewardship. For the public, the inauguration of this CNG filling station represents a significant leap forward in terms of convenience and efficiency. With the transition to cashless filling, we welcome a streamlined transaction process that eliminates the need for physical currency at the pump At the Ministry of Works and Transport (MOWT) and by extension, the Public Transport Service Corporation (PTSC), we are acutely aware of the profound impact our carbon footprint can have on our planet. Our journey towards efficiency commenced in 2014 with the acquisition of 35 CNG buses. Subsequently, in 2018 and 2020, we expanded our fleet by 25 and 12 buses respectively, culminating in a current operating fleet of 71 CNG buses. In January, 2024, the PTSC was recognized as the single largest customer in terms of litre sales by NGC Green Company. The PTSC’s Tobago Depot currently has four (4) CNG buses that primarily service the Scarborough/ Crown Point, Black Rock and Buccoo routes. These endeavours align with the Government's commitment to the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 15% from various sectors by 2030. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our partners, for their invaluable support in realizing this project. As we navigate the challenges of climate change, PTSC remains steadfast in its mission to provide safe, reliable, and affordable transportation services to the people of Trinidad and Tobago.
