Did shopper marketing, suddenly die? Can’t move for retail media posts or predictions delivered on the hour (in case you hadn’t noticed…). But from the decks I’ve seen from a handful of networks (and a couple of major players), it’s all very format driven. By that, that precious data they want to exploit still essentially fills prescribed ad units across their estate (or beyond it). There is little application of the science; how consumers actually navigate their estate, and how you exploit THAT. Old school shopper marketing. Totally get for established brands out there, retail media in its current guise will almost certainly do a banging job. For the rest mind, aren’t retailers maybe missing a trick? Might be an idea to employ some shopper marketing expertise for those conversations lower down the chain….
