We were invited to Parliament last week to go to an InvestHER event, celebrating all things female entrepreneurship. We heard from Dame Caroline Dinenage MP DBE, Emma Wright, Darren Jones MP - Chair, Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Committee, Peter Kyle and Samantha Niblett MP. A few facts for you:  🔶 Women founded a record number of companies in 2023, but it still only represented around 18% of all companies 🔶 Only around 14% of angel investors in the UK are women 🔶 Women receive around 2% of venture capital funding 🔶 £250 billion could be added to the UK economy if female founded companies got the funding they needed Which is exactly why these events need to happen! We couldn’t be prouder to be female founded, majority female funded and female led here at Propelle. With a new government in place, we want to see more: 🔶 Female founded businesses getting funding 🔶 Female angel investors getting support  🔶 Female targeted businesses getting recognition beyond ‘niche’ It requires a mix of policy, funding and attitude changing, but we really believe it can be done! As of the last comprehensive report on the subject, there were approximately 230,000 women-owned businesses in Massachusetts. This number has likely grown since then, given the general trend of increasing women entrepreneurship across the country. Women’s economic empowerment has raised a great deal of awareness in Europe, producing female leadership and entrepreneurial role models in all kinds and sizes of businesses and organisations. This movement has also spurred the creation of support ecosystems designed to nurture and expand female-led entrepreneurial initiatives. On Women’s Entrepreneurship Day, we want to bring the female perspective to the forefront of the discussion on Europe’s global competitiveness and explore ways to reinvigorate our economic dynamism. We’ll examine which policies are currently lacking to support women entrepreneurs and identify which incentives have proven most effective. Understanding these gaps and successes is key to shaping future strategies that empower women to drive innovation and growth across Europe.

3 „simple“ steps when judging or mentoring a founder pitching his/her startup in 2-5 minutes (and I am really good at it😍): 1. Listen - truly listen - to entrepreneurs 2. Be extremely fast to understand, analyze, synthesize, grasp the core. 3. Give constructive feedback on weaknesses, strengths & highest potential. In others words - how to make it better! The next step depends on your role in the specific setting. PS When I say „simple“ it‘s because it is simple in theory. Never too far from heritage spaces, I had the pleasure of joining many familiar accents at The Irish Embassy last night to promote, spotlight and normalise both female founders receiving investment and investing via education, and community with AwakenHub and AwakenAngels. It never ceases to amaze me, the variety of female networks whether new or old across many industries, sectors and niches. In the last year, I am frequently discovering new ones like Female Founders Rise, Founders' Social and even chairing our own one in the Built Environment (Urbanistas); which just goes to show how many powerhouses are out there building businesses and supporting communities of all kinds! So if times get tough, or you feel alone in your business journey - try to get out there and find your tribe because they are there and looking for more women like you too! It is a joy to hear the amazing variety of businesses being set up which also helps give perspective to yours. Ultimately, what could be better for inspiration and motivation, other than hearing other women who have been where you are and are now where you want to be - showing it can be done! Key takeaways: 🔍 Really investigate people before getting into business with them - especially if taking investment. Are they really a good fit for you and your business, have they done what they say they have, have you spoken to others who have worked with them? Seems a no brainer but if investment is going to keep you fromgoing under its easy to ignore red flags.. 🧮 Fractional co-founders are a thing! ✅️ All you need is £2,000 to become an angel investor which would make the world of difference to female founders.
