🌿 Discover the Heart of the CARMINE Project - Part 2! The CARMINE Project is built on 8 dynamic Work Packages designed to drive climate resilience in European metropolitan regions. 🌟 Work Package 2 is integrating climate risk assessment models with earth system processes to create a cutting-edge framework that bridges climate models with human activities on a metropolitan scale. This involves enhancing data, processes, tools, and modeling to deliver innovative, user-focused outcomes. WP2 thrives on collaboration with local stakeholders, impact modeling experts, and SE professionals, facilitated by our Living Labs (LLs) and SC-HUB (WP1), and informed by the climate vulnerability and risk assessments from WP3. 🤝 Lead: CMCC Foundation - Centro Euro Mediterraneo sui Cambiamenti Climatici #CARMINEproject #ClimateAdaptation #ClimateResilience #MissionAdaptation #HorizonEurope

New Energy Risk has been supporting first-of-a-kind projects with technology performance insurance for over a decade and has enabled over $4B of capital investment. In the past year it has been great to see this topic starting to get the attention it deserves as a critical challenge that needs to be overcome many times over for a whole raft of technologies required for the energy transition, including this essential reading from Trellis Climate. As a chaser, the latest issue of NER's project finance guide: https://lnkd.in/gzzruxJg #technologyperformanceinsurance #foak #energytransition
How can we bridge institutional and capital gaps for first-of-a-kind (FOAK) project development in order to accelerate climate solutions in time and at scale? 💡 Throughout the development and launch of Trellis Climate (including when we were still known as the Early Climate Infrastructure (ECI) program!), we have relied on the 2022 Barriers to the Timely Deployment of Climate Infrastructure report by Prime Coalition to guide our work. In order to gain a deeper understanding of the project development capital gap, which was identified as one of the four gaps in the report, we conducted extensive field research and spoke with many different individuals and organizations, including FOAK climate companies, climate investors, and ecosystem partners. As part of our efforts to promote knowledge sharing, we are excited to announce the publication of our findings 🔍 "Catalyzing Development of First-of-a-Kind Climate Projects” sheds light on the major challenges faced by FOAK projects in the field of climate infrastructure development and proposes viable solutions to overcome them. 🌊 What are some of the lessons learned from the design and execution of Climate Information and Early Warning Systems projects supported by GEF? In recent years, Global Environment Facility (GEF) projects have demonstrated a notable shift towards a more balanced approach in addressing climate-related challenges. While early projects focused on establishing meteorological and climate monitoring systems, recent endeavors have prioritized delivering tailored information for effective climate change adaptation. However, challenges persist in fully integrating early warning systems into comprehensive disaster risk management strategies. This lack of cohesion can hinder proactive mitigation efforts, particularly at the community level. Despite these hurdles, GEF projects have made significant strides in improving forecasting capabilities and strengthening institutional capacity. Yet, the "last mile" challenge remains, highlighting the need for greater focus on distributing climate information to marginalized communities. Moving forward, fostering a cohesive integration of climate information and early warning systems into broader risk reduction frameworks is essential for enhancing the effectiveness and sustainability of GEF projects in mitigating climate-related risks. In my role as a project developer, I've seen how small countries can lead the way in #climateaction. 🇲🇩 and 🇲🇰, two countries in the EUROASIA region, are known for their #climateambition in their #NDCs. They are also frontrunners in using science for #climateresilience, as demonstrated by creating a specific #index for climate resilience at municipal level. This composite index considers the interaction of three components—#exposure, #sensitivity, and #adaptive capacities of municipalities to address associated effects or #risks of #climatechange. While in #🇲🇰 it is named the #LivelihoodVulnerabilityIndex, in #🇲🇩 it is referred to as the #ClimateVulnerabilityIndex. Despite the different names, the analyses behind the results are the same. The resulting maps are visually friendly, making it easy to identify municipalities that need the most help to become climate resilient. I'm curious if you're aware of any other countries that have utilized this approach? Nataliya Vasylyeva Sladjana Bundalo Susan Legro

Climate actions at local level is not possible until and unless the local facilitators are equipped with the simple and effective tools and techniques applicable to the local resource management context. #BRCRN project equips local facilitators of natural resource management field schools being implemented in 26 river systems of the project areas. Transect Walk and assessment of resource management issues is the primary step for preparing participatory climate resilient land use plan.
