How can we bridge institutional and capital gaps for first-of-a-kind (FOAK) project development in order to accelerate climate solutions in time and at scale? 💡 Throughout the development and launch of Trellis Climate (including when we were still known as the Early Climate Infrastructure (ECI) program!), we have relied on the 2022 Barriers to the Timely Deployment of Climate Infrastructure report by Prime Coalition to guide our work. In order to gain a deeper understanding of the project development capital gap, which was identified as one of the four gaps in the report, we conducted extensive field research and spoke with many different individuals and organizations, including FOAK climate companies, climate investors, and ecosystem partners. As part of our efforts to promote knowledge sharing, we are excited to announce the publication of our findings 🔍 "Catalyzing Development of First-of-a-Kind Climate Projects” sheds light on the major challenges faced by FOAK projects in the field of climate infrastructure development and proposes viable solutions to overcome them. New Energy Risk has been supporting first-of-a-kind projects with technology performance insurance for over a decade and has enabled over $4B of capital investment. In the past year it has been great to see this topic starting to get the attention it deserves as a critical challenge that needs to be overcome many times over for a whole raft of technologies required for the energy transition, including this essential reading from Trellis Climate. As a chaser, the latest issue of NER's project finance guide: https://lnkd.in/gzzruxJg #technologyperformanceinsurance #foak #energytransition

A great carbon project must measurably remove or avoid GHG emissions — but we also need to influence the driving factors behind climate change: ecosystem health and resilience, and people’s ability to live and thrive sustainably off the land. That's why we work hand-in-hand with partners to design and implement projects that holistically integrate climate, environmental, and community benefits. 🌍 🌱 💚 In the second installment on our project monitoring strategy, Catona’s Director of Monitoring & Engagement Megan Bomba explains how we collaborate closely with our partners — project developers, on-the-ground implementing organizations, and the communities and participants directly involved in and impacted by the project — to gather all the data required to measure and demonstrate impact across all three of these core pillars. 👇 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/g7DaYAd9

Announcing the Capital Coalition! The latest initiative from Project Drawdown aims to empower a broad community of funders with the latest climate science, identify critical solutions for reducing emissions, and ultimately inspire more and better investments. “Science shows us where we should focus our efforts and resources to stop the climate crisis,” says Project Drawdown Executive Director Jonathan Foley, PhD. Private capital has a critical role to play in funding climate solutions. While funders spend billions of dollars annually to stop climate change, that capital is often misaligned with the most effective, science-backed climate solutions. The new initiative for #philanthropists, #impactinvestors, and their advisors will leverage Project Drawdown’s scientific expertise to guide capital to the most promising solutions. A big thank you to our founding partners, including Bentley Motors, Toniic, and Wana Brands Foundation. 🌍 Advancing Climate Resilience with Mission CE Climate approach Recently, the MISSION CE CLIMATE consortium convened at FHV - University of Applied Sciences Vorarlberg, marking another milestone in our journey to foster climate-resilient communities in Central Europe. Reflecting on our progress and future endeavours, we recognize the imperative for collective action and innovative approaches to the climate crisis. Our time together sparked strategic deliberations on building climate resilience through enhanced communication, cross-sectoral collaboration, stakeholder engagement and co-creation, and robust strategies tailored to Central Europe's unique challenges. The subsequent focus on catalysing resilience through pilot projects demonstrated our commitment to exploring new avenues and embracing novel solutions (and challenges that come with them). We also had the privilege of gleaning insights from Christoph Blank of Weavs, who introduced us to Citymonitor, a transformative modular urban data platform. Our study visit to ARA, a wastewater treatment plant, underscored the intricate nexus between water management and climate adaptation. 💧 As we forge ahead, our mission extends beyond project meetings – it's a call to action for all who share our vision of resilient communities sharing a sustainable future. Join us in reimagining possibilities and charting a course towards a climate-resilient tomorrow! 👫🌳

We are proud of our enduring partnership with WSP in New Zealand. Together, we've published 11 compelling reports, with the latest being "Premiums Under Pressure" released on 10 November. Home insurance premiums in Aotearoa New Zealand have faced steep increases over the past few years. Premiums are expected to rise further over time as more insurers move to adopt ‘risk-based pricing’ for flood hazards and as the impacts of climate change increase, pushing up costs for insurance companies and their international underwriters. Without effective policy measures, these pressures will result in unaffordable premiums for some properties, leading households to reduce, or cancel, their insurance coverage. This report sets out early thinking on options for a thorny and pressing policy issue that has not yet been well developed in the literature: how to keep residential insurance accessible and affordable in Aotearoa New Zealand in the face of increasing climate-related challenges.
Since 2019, WSP has partnered with Mahi a Rongo | The Helen Clark Foundation to produce evidence-based reports that draw on global research, tailored specifically to address New Zealand’s most critical societal and infrastructure challenges. Our diverse range of reports caters to everyone passionate about advancing our infrastructure, climate, and social development, with themes including climate change, funding and financing, city design, and resilience.
