This is probably the closest to deadline I've finished my annual CPD with Chartered Institute of Public Relations, but it's been an intense year! Study focused on EDI, thanks to a great series of guides from the CIPR's Diversity and Inclusion Network; and internal communications, where the recent 2nd edition of 'Successful Employee Communications' by Sue Dewhurst and Liam FitzPatrick provided a great deal of insight to work through. My focus for the next year? Getting chartered. #InvestinCPD

Good to interview the CBI (Confederation of British Industry)'s new Senior Council Chair & Arcadis City Director Peter Hogg at today's All Staff fireside chat. He told us all about his seasoned career across SMEs & global biz, and shared some nuggets of wisdom for climbing the corporate ladder. Key bits paraphrased 👇 1. Pick something & get good at it - so less office politics, more skill polishing 2. Be giving - whether you deal in advice or support 3. Act with integrity & trustworthiness - even the biggest industries can be the smallest of circles, and reputation matters Thanks to all who joined today's discussion.

A truly essential guide for anybody working in the crisis comms field.
Last year, we released our first skills guide, "Drafting a Crisis Communication Plan", which was designed to help our members and the wider PR community improve in crisis communications. The guide covers eight steps to writing a crisis communications plan, some general dos and don’ts, and concludes with a useful checklist and recommendations for further reading. Thanks to our committee members, who poured their hearts into writing this skills guide, using their own extensive experience in the field. In this video, they explain why they contributed and how much they enjoyed working together on this project. The skills guide is an approved CPD resource and worth 5 points. It is available for CIPR members to download here: https://lnkd.in/eyBARp9Q #Crisis #CIPR #CIPRCrisisCommsNetwork #Reputation #Risk

John Lewis: When Staff Mags Go Bad This is not a commentary on the subject matter specifically, but rather an observation that one staff network creating a product to send to the entire staff body feels like a very expensive, very un-targetted exercise that will - by that last point - only ever cause controversy. If only they'd consulted internal comms.... Staff networks are powerful. But also optional. As internal communicators, we have a role in supporting all of them to promote what they do. Allowing one to communicate in a way that is different from the others and presents their view as that of the organisations, is very very risky....because rebuttals live in the last par and by then, the damage has been done. #internalcommunications https://archive.ph/kRng2
