Are you on Bluesky? The recent changes in X's policies, along with Elon Musk's newly appointed administration role, has many users considering alternative social networking platforms. One such platform, Bluesky Social, has been dominating the conversation. On November 6, the day after Election Day, Similarweb reported that 116,000 users deactivated their X accounts, marking the largest single-day exodus since Musk acquired the company. Meanwhile, NBC News noted that over 1 million users migrated to Bluesky following the election, increasing its total user count to 20 million as of November 19. Bluesky positions itself as part of the evolving social media landscape, emphasizing decentralized, user-controlled interactions. Whether it genuinely offers a safer and more engaging experience depends on individual perspectives and needs. For now, Bluesky presents a digital space worth exploring.

𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸: The Washington Post is experiencing a notable decline in subscriptions, with the latest count at 250,000 cancellations. This drop is attributed to the paper's decision not to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris under Jeff Bezos's ownership. While the Post claims this move is aimed at honoring its journalistic roots, the core issue appears to be a breakdown in communication with its subscribers. The announcement came just 11 days before the election, raising eyebrows and sparking speculation. Additionally, there seems to be a lack of intentional explaining from the Post’s leadership. Bezos has framed the decision as a way to bolster trust in journalism, referencing surveys that show journalists and media institutions often rank low in public trust, frequently just above Congress. He notes that the press have actually fallen below Congress, this election year. All that said, transparency is more vital than ever in maintaining credibility and rebuilding relationships with readers. Engaging directly with subscribers through clear, honest communication, ensuring that their voices are heard and valued. With the timing of this, it’s easy to compare WaPo’s issue with McDonald’s recent controversy surrounding former President Trump visiting one of the company’s franchises. Following the appearance, McDonald’s sent out an internal newsletter claiming that they are staying true to themselves by welcoming all who come through their doors. There was even a clever quote: “We are not red or blue – we are golden.” McDonald’s was able to maintain a neutral stance in a politically charged environment, allowing them to operate without alienating any segment of their customer base. By emphasizing inclusivity and a commitment to their core values, McDonald's was able to mitigate potential backlash from the controversy surrounding the Trump visit. WaPo’s untimely communication led to subscriber losses and a crisis of trust.
