Let’s also clear up what we mean by the word “diet.” When I refer here to a plant-based “diet,” I don’t mean a diet as in food-restriction-for-weight-loss. Diet here simply means the foods you habitually eat. The goal of a plant-based diet is to help you live a healthier, happier life in the long term. It’s a lifestyle choice, not a weight-loss program. The most important thing to remember is that food patterns are more powerful than single foods or nutrients. https://lnkd.in/erQ4essV

While the debate around food dyes continues, it's important to remember that they aren't the primary cause of major health issues in the USA. However, striving for a diet higher in whole food consumption and decreasing overconsumption of alcohol and foods that are void of nutrients is always a good goal! Moderation (which looks different for everyone) is important when it comes to foods low in nutrients as well as things like food dyes, but making informed choices about what we consume is crucial. Let's focus on reducing processed foods in general, which often contain minimal nutrients, higher calories, and artificial colors while we embrace whole, unprocessed options. Every step towards a 'better' diet contributes to our long-term health and well-being. Thinking about long-term health? Reducing our exposure to artificial ingredients can be a preventive step towards "better." Let's shift our focus to more whole foods and minimize (we don't need to eliminate) processed options when we can. A topic for another time is ACCESS to better food, which is a huge problem, and fear-mongering does not help. Let's get to "better!" #RegisteredDietitian #RD #Nutrition #Longevity #Science #Wellness #BeTheChange #MTWABP!
