You're in a room full of your colleagues 👥. You've worked tirelessly behind the scenes, delivering results, meeting deadlines 💼, and yet, when it comes time for promotions or leadership opportunities, your name doesn’t come up. Sound familiar? 🤔 It’s a common experience for many women in the workplace. The truth is, hard work alone isn’t enough. Visibility—being seen and recognized 👀—is just as critical to success. Without it, your talent remains hidden, and your potential may never be fully realized. Leadership roles require you to be seen and heard 🔊. Keeping your head down and working hard won’t always get you noticed. As we move towards building more equitable workplaces, more women need to be seen in leadership roles. Their presence normalizes diversity at the top 🌱. Visible women leaders show that leadership is not limited by gender and challenge outdated stereotypes, reshaping what leadership should look like ✨. How visible are you in your current role? What can you do to ensure your talents are recognized? 🤔 For a deeper dive into why visibility matters for women leaders, check out our latest blog! #WomenInLeadership #VisibilityMatters #CareerGrowth #LeadershipDevelopment #InclusiveLeadership

"How Women Rise: Break the 12 Habits Holding You Back". This week, I would like to share insights from one of my favourite books on Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) by Sally Helgesen and Marshall Goldsmith. The book highlights certain habits that are helpful in the early stages of a career but can become obstacles for women in leadership roles. These habits are detrimental to women leaders in senior positions. Here is a summary of those habits. 1. Hesitancy to acknowledge your achievements or/& Expecting others to notice and reward your hard work spontaneously 2. Overestimating expertise or/& Striving for perfection 3. Focusing on creating rather than leveraging relationships or/& Failing to seek support from the beginning 4. Prioritizing a job over a long-term career or /& allowing distractions to divert your attention 5. Underestimating your accomplishments or /& Overcommitting 6. Overthinking or /& Being overly concerned with pleasing others At times, I have personally struggled with the habit of overthinking and being overly concerned with pleasing others. Which habit do you relate to more, and are you now open to change? Let's embrace these leadership lessons and strive for a more diverse and inclusive workplace. #leadershiplessons #diversityandinclusion

Women in Leadership - WOMEN RISING! Effective leaders develop a sense of purpose by pursuing goals that align with their personal values and advance the collective good. This allows them to look beyond the status quo to what is possible and gives them a compelling reason to take action despite personal fears and insecurities. Such leaders are seen as authentic and trustworthy because they are willing to take risks in the service of shared goals. By connecting others to a larger purpose, they inspire commitment, boost resolve, and help colleagues find deeper meaning in their work. We are thrilled to have several guest speakers joining us for WIL 2024 that will build on our strategic goal to strengthen alliances with our indigenous and new immigrant communities: promoting our Industry as a viable career choice. These valuable communities contribute diversity, language skills and innovation for a successful future. Join us on October 22, 2024 as we celebrate Women RISING. EVERYONE IS WELCOME! Three actions we suggest supporting women’s access to leadership positions are: (1) educate women and men about gender bias, (2) create safe “identity workspaces” to support transitions to bigger roles, and (3) anchor women’s development efforts in a sense of leadership purpose rather than in how women are perceived. These actions will give women insight into themselves and their organizations, enabling them to more effectively chart a course to leadership. In light of recent studies by Gallup and Resume Lab, we see a dynamic narrative unfolding around female leadership. The journey is marked by exceptional achievements and challenging biases: 1. Empowering Engagement: Female leaders are setting new benchmarks in employee engagement and organizational performance, demonstrating the efficacy of values-driven leadership. 2. Exemplifying Excellence: The high standards to which women in leadership are held underscores their role in fostering a culture of excellence and satisfaction. 3. The Preferred Choice: An increasing preference for female leadership reflects a cultural shift towards recognizing and valuing the distinct leadership qualities that women bring to the table. 4. Overcoming Obstacles: The gender and racial divides that persist challenge us to address and dismantle the systemic barriers that hinder equitable leadership. 5. Shifting the Spotlight: The portrayal of female leaders as novelties by the media sparks conversations about how we acknowledge and celebrate achievement, beyond gender qualifiers. These insights propel us to examine the ‘Like Me’ bias and other cognitive biases that shape our professional landscape. It's time to champion a leadership culture that truly appreciates the values, contributions, and potential of female leaders. How are you supporting and elevating female leadership within your organization? Let’s cultivate an environment where diversity is not just recognized but revered for the value it inherently brings to leadership. Because I believe that one of the most powerful accelerants of women's career success is knowledge sharing, I invite you to join my upcoming Executive Roundtable. It's free. It's virtual. It will give you valuable insights into how to elevate your communication during uncomfortable moments so you speak up with confidence and authenticity. 💡 Traditional leadership development often fails to equip women with strategies to effectively address gender bias. Much of what is commonly suggested for women to do instead reinforces the harmful stereotypes that they are 'too emotional' or 'too much.' 🚀 The focus of this roundtable "Communication that Gets Buy-In and Compels Action from Teams and Stakeholders" is to facilitate peer-to-peer discussion about practical and effective ways to communicate that get our voices heard, our ideas validated, and builds trust for our initiatives. There are 3 more seats available for women in upper leadership for this virtual event: March 26th, 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm EST, Zoom Don't miss this opportunity! Message me to secure your spot. #WomenLeadership #ExecutiveRoundtable #LeadershipDevelopment #AttunedLeadership #grandrapidsmichigan #communicationskills
