Elevating Executive Communication // Keynote Speaker // 2022 CRO of the Year // Demandbase Top 25 Sales Executive to Learn From

Here's what C-suite Executives, Small Business Owners, and Corporate Leaders Often Get Wrong About Speaking in Front of Large Groups - customers, team members, investors, etc... They think they can "just wing it" because they're smart and have a nice personality. Which is incorrect. They also often believe that being knowledgeable or experienced in their business or industry is all that really matters. That’s incorrect as well. What really makes someone an influential communicator involves elements like storytelling, a clear through-line, confidence & presence, body language, and eye contact. These are a few factors that significantly influence whether your audience pays attention or completely zones out. If you just get head-nods of agreement, or if people leave with a clear call-to-action and desire to drive change. Bob Marsh Yes, and... ENERGY! Energy flows into everything you mentioned and more. Yet, hardly anyone talks about it when it comes to speaking, trust-building, leadership... It's always been an integral component of my frameworks because our energy fuels all we think, say, and do.

So so true Bob. Preparing for a big audience is very important. I always had a routine for my prep which included gaining access to the event space the night before or when it was empty and actually getting up on stage and at least running through my first 5 mins. If not most of my talk.

Bob: In addition to a well rehearsed plan for the speaking engagement, I've always thought there's another a critical ingredient: "Compelling likeability." Without doubt, since the day I met you, you've radiated it.

This is very true! Because of the impact of those situations, I always suggest practice, practice and practice.

being ABLE to "wing it" if called upon, surely is an ability that's beneficial to have on reserve. Proper preparation is essential if you're anything BUT being "grabbed" at the last minute for sharing insight. Analogy; Just because you live in an area that has good EMS service, doesn't mean you can overlook diet and exercise.

So easy but so hard to combine them all. It’s a gift and a consistent practice rhythm.

Absolutely agree! True leadership involves connecting with your audience beyond just the facts. As Aristotle once hinted - the ethos, pathos, and logos are key. Communication is an art! 🌟
