Brand architecture is one of the cornerstones of branding. It helps define the interrelationships between products and other entities in a company's portfolio, and their relationship with the parent company. Two important questions to ask when defining your brand architecture; how will the master brand benefit from this sub-brand, and vice versa? There are different approaches to brand architecture, all of which depend on these two questions. What you see on this post is a monolithic approach, also called a branded house, where products are sold under one name/branding umbrella. This approach is used when the sub-brands rely on the strength of the parent brand to grow. An advantage of this approach is the lower cost of marketing as all products are marketed under one umbrella. As a startup particularly at the early stages, if you're launching with multiple projects, it's wise to go with a monolithic approach to structure your portfolio. #brandarchitecture #brandidentity #brandstrategy

What makes for a good brand architecture? It facilitates choice and reduces friction. As your company merge, acquire, or create new companies and products, branding and marketing become increasingly complex. One of the tricky tasks for CMO is brand architecture, aka what to call things. There are 4 choices in brand architecture: 1. Monolithic or "Branded House" A strong, single parent brand. Products and other portfolio items use the parent's identity with generic descriptors. 2. Endorsed Products or divisions have clearly defined market presence and benefit from the association, endorsement, and visibility of the parent brand. 3. Hybrid A parent brand that shares its identity with only some product or portfolio brands, or a nearly monolithic brand architecture with one or two outliers. 4. House of brands A family of well-known brands. The name of the parent may be either invisible or inconsequential to customers, perhaps known only to the investment community. Brand architecture is market signposting. Being clear about how your brands relate to one another will help you examine marketing, cost, time, and legal implications; it will also help your customers navigate and make sense of a brand's suite of products and services.
