Exciting news for the global innovation community! Johnson & Johnson has inaugurated its first Innovation Hub on the European mainland at the Switzerland Innovation Park Basel Area. This strategic move underscores Johnson & Johnson's dedication to collaborating with external innovators and leveraging the vibrant innovation ecosystem of Switzerland and neighboring countries. The region's rich talent pool and global standing as a top area for scientific innovation make it ideal for this new venture. In Switzerland, Johnson & Johnson employs more than 5,700 staff across the biotech and medtech areas. During the opening event, Emmanuelle Quiles, Worldwide Vice President of Cardiovascular, Metabolism, and Pulmonary Hypertension at Johnson & Johnson, underlined the importance of the Basel Area for the company expansion strategy and described the area as one of the “top regions for scientific innovation in the world.” The J&J Innovation Hub, led by Michael R Huebner, will serve as a bridge to external innovations and act as a key extension of J&J Innovation in London, driving meaningful collaborations and advances in healthcare and medical technology. The Basel life sciences ecosystem and the regional real estate market have gone through a transition over the last decade, from being largely owner-occupied to a rental market for laboratory and office spaces. With the opening of former inner-city industrial sites (e.g. Stücki, Klybeck, Rosental Mitte, Novartis Campus), increasing government economic development activities, and growing investor appetite, further laboratory potential has opened for smaller companies and start-ups.
