Imagine a country where technology bridges gaps, not widens them... I had the privilege of speaking at the Ghana Youth Tech Summit on "Leveraging Technology for Social Impact". Still buzzing from the energy and innovation! Did you know that 60% of Africa's population is under 25? This demographic dividend presents an unprecedented opportunity to harness technology for social good. But, how do we bridge the gap? My journey from coding in a small Ghanaian town to leading tech initiatives across Africa has taught me one thing: technology alone isn't enough. It's the people, passion, and purpose that drive meaningful change. I took some time to engage with literature on Digital Tools and Monitoring & Evaluation. The goal was to appreciate how Digital Tools can be used for Monitoring and Evaluation, and in particular, my interest was in Youth Employment Programs. I was fascinated by how platforms like Harambee Youth Employment Accelerator in South Africa are leading the way with innovative, zero-rated mobile apps. By collaborating with telecom companies, they’ve removed data costs, making it easier for young people to participate, share feedback, and provide demographic data—all while enabling organizations to measure program efficiency more accurately.📱📊 Another standout example is how Laboratoria uses Slack channels to maintain engagement with alumni after program completion. They not only track employment outcomes up to 18 months but also foster community connections between participants and alumni. It’s a brilliant way to ensure long-term success beyond the program itself.💼🤝 Lastly, tools like Zoom offer virtual focus groups, allowing organizations to collect data, gather feedback, and review recorded sessions for deeper insights. Seniors Without Fakes – Joint Efforts in Orunia to Combat Disinformation 🛡️💻 We are proud to have completed the "Senior Without Fakes" project, where seniors from Orunia learned how to safely navigate the internet and identify false information. 🧓👵 At Gościnna Przystań – the Community Center, we collaborated with local leaders and senior clubs in Orunia to organize a series of workshops that formed the basis for educational programs within the Orunia communities of senioral club.  We extend our heartfelt thanks to our partners for their support and wonderful engagement.  A total of 70 participants, including 24 people from Ukraine, developed skills in recognizing disinformation. 📰❌ The meetings, led by local leaders, were highly interactive and tailored to the needs of the participants. Mrs. Krystyna, one of the seniors, emphasized, "With each session, I felt myself making progress, and now I feel more confident when talking to my grandchildren about the Internet." 😊  As part of the project, we also developed educational materials, which we are now distributing within senior communities to help others gain valuable skills in the fight against disinformation. 📚🎓  At the same time, we worked on improving the digital security of our organization and enhancing the digital skills of our staff. 📈 Training sessions, workshops, and webinars provided us with a new perspective on the future.  The activities within the Digital Activism Accelerator project are carried out by TechSoup Poland with support from Google, in cooperation with local partners from Central and Eastern Europe. Meet Tobi Akinrinmade. A Digital Marketing professional & skilled Front-End Developer. He is the founder of Lagos Based a media outlet dedicated to telling the African story. Tobi is a skilled front-end developer, and he holds a master’s degree in International Management from the University of West England and another MSc in Digital Marketing from the University of Northumbria. He partnered with No-Code Africa in 2023, thereby birthing Girls into Tech. He is an advocate for bridging the gender gap in the Nigerian tech space and the co-founder of Girls into Tech When asked how he was able to soar through despite the many challenges and suggestions on how to break into tech, this was his response "I believe to break into anything you need a mentor who is doing it already. The reality is that there are too many resources out there and it is very easy to get lost. I really did not practice in Nigeria but there are lots of challenges that limit people who are trying to break into tech in Nigeria. Typically, people may not really get the opportunity to network, poor internet connection, and obviously poor power supply but these days things are changing more and more people are gathering at tech hubs and co working spaces. These types of gatherings are providing opportunities to network. You can also join tech communities while still in the university".
