I'm on my way to Pretoria for Science Forum South Africa. Looking forward to UK in South Africa's session on science diplomacy for open access on Thursday, and some great looking sessions on supporting early career researchers and enabling young people to lead. 🌴 Christian Opoku-Kwarteng's work is rooted in Ghana’s forests. 🐜 There he's bringing his expertise in entomology to address threats to biodiversity. 🐝 And he's using his passion for outreach to educate young people and provide training to communities in sustainable beekeeping. Christian is also a member of INASP's early career researcher community, AuthorAID. He credits our Mastering Grant Proposal Writing course as a “game-changer”, helping him secure grants and open doors to further opportunities. And he says that "Getting Started with Writing and Publishing Your Research" has accelerated him on his journey towards publication. Other courses and connections are enabling him to deepen his knowledge in data analysis and publishing. Our community is free-to-join for early career researchers across the world, but it's dedicated to those in the majority world working hard to build careers and address the critical questions our planet and societies are facing. 🌳Meet Christian Opoku-Kwarteng 🍃 Christian's work is making a real difference in Ghana and beyond, tackling biodiversity challenges, engaging local communities through sustainable beekeeping initiatives, and inspiring the next generation in schools to act on conservation and climate change. 💻 Like many early career researchers in the Global South, Christian faces obstacles, particularly around funding and resources, which can be scarce and competitive. Had a great time sharing our experiences at the 2024 SGCI Annual Forum and GRC Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Meeting in Gaborone, Botswana! I was honoured to jointly present with my CEO Dr Martin Ongol a paper on the Gender Equity and Research Alliance (GERA), a joint initiative by the Uganda National Council for Science and Technology and INASP. GERA is working to create a more equitable research system in Uganda by addressing gender, geographical, and generational disparities (3Gs). Our presentation highlighted the importance of: Gender mainstreaming in research Supporting early-career researchers Promoting equitable access to research opportunities we are looking forward to continue working with the different stakeholders to foster a more inclusive and equitable research environment in Uganda. #SGCI2024 #GRCSA2024 #GenderEquity #Research #Uganda #Science #Innovation #Africa
