While the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) exists, it doesn’t cover all mental health professionals, leaving a gap in quality control and ethical practice. The best part about being late to this, is that India could easily re-allign and adopt 𝐠𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 7+ 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 who have renowned systems in place already (Sweden, US, Germany, UK, Canada, Australia, Malaysia, South Afrcia, etc.) no need to even reinvent the wheel. We have the opportunity to implement these models quickly and bring our profession in line with international standards. Despite our technological and economic growth, we lag so far behind in standardizing mental health services. Can therapist make 1L/month consistently in India without private practise? Yes! Is it an easy route? No! When you start working, gain experience, work with as many people as you can! Reading books wont make you a good therapist, working with people, will! Join organisations and ask feedback from your seniors and clients. Keep building a list of people you've worked with. A good part of this field is, it has a lifetime client retention rate. That means if a client has gotten good results with you, next time something happens they will come back to you. To everyone studying right now, don’t worry, you’ll have at least some seniors in the field who believe in uplifting therapists and not exhausting them! We will make things work for you. I'll share more on how you to reach that amount but for now Happy Dhanteras! 🌼 #psychologist #therapist #mentalhealth

In the recent webinar on "Improving Policy Responses to Dementia and Mental Health Challenges in Old Age, Dr. Nasir Javed MBBS, MCPS (Psych), ex PAS Officer "There is a lack of effective policy implementation mechanisms in Pakistan. Despite the Senior Citizens' Act in the Federal Capital Territory and similar laws in the provinces, some of which have been in place for nearly a decade, implementation remains weak. What we need is a Ten Year Strategic Action Plan specifying mechanisms, resources and responsible institutions. We should learn from Japan's New Orange Plan, a robust and practical model for dementia care, with specified actions and timelines #dementiaawareness#mentalhealthawareness#aginggracefully#seniorcitizens#Policy#PakistanZindabad #healthcareheroes #socialprotection #onlinewebinar

Should India Restrict Children's Access to Social Media? Australia is set to ban children under 16 from social media, sparking a global conversation on digital safety for young minds. With social media's growing influence in shaping our youth, should India consider similar measures to protect mental health and promote healthy development? What are your thoughts on this approach? Is it necessary for India? #SocialMedia #YouthSafety #India #DigitalPolicy

Can I ask my therapist their political views? Yes. Ask your therapist how do they integrate political work within their sessions and what best describes their political identity. If possible during consultation itself. For the longest time western psychotherapy training has convinced the world that health, specially mental health can be viewed in a silo, outside of the systems that determine it. That is simply not the case. As a social justice researcher and trauma therapist, I am actively pushing for the decolonisation of mental health, in the work I do and through T&F India. As people of colour our health is at the behest of systems built on our exclusion. Therefore when seeking care, knowing the politics your doctor, therapist, nurse and medic subscribe to is essential. This serves partly to ensure your literal safety as someone from a group that has historically been marginalised, and partly to underscore the importance of affirmative health equity. If your therapist doesn't address systemic issues, bring in a trauma informed lens to your identity disclosure and admit to their positionality (or lack thereof) as a person in power; it is safe to say they are perpetuating the cycle of violence with you. So, Yes you can ask your therapist about their politics. #decolonise #mentalhealth #politicsoftherapy

One in every 7 Indian is having some or other mental health issues still there are almost nil claims of mental illness. Why?? Ayushman Bharat, a commendable initiative, has extended its reach to mental health treatments. However, the low claim rates for these packages point to a significant gap in our mental healthcare system. One possible reason is the limited availability of mental health facilities within the PMJAY network. This restricts access for those who rely on government-funded healthcare. Additionally, the stigma surrounding mental illness often prevents people from seeking help, even when it's available. The situation is alarming considering that around 14.3% of India's population suffers from mental disorders. This translates to millions of individuals grappling with conditions like depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder. The lack of adequate support and treatment can have devastating consequences, affecting not only the individual but also their families and communities. To address this pressing issue, we need to prioritize mental health awareness and destigmatization. Initiatives like mental health literacy campaigns and educational programs can help break down barriers and encourage people to seek help. Furthermore, expanding the network of mental health facilities under PMJAY is crucial to ensure accessibility for all. By investing in mental healthcare, we can create a healthier and more compassionate society. Let's work together to break the silence and provide the support that individuals with mental health conditions deserve. #mentalhealth #AyushmanBharat #healthcare #India #mentalhealthawareness #destigmatization #healthcareaccess
