What is BNG? BNG, or Biodiversity Net Gain, came into effect as part of the 2021 Environment law. The premise was simple. If you are building anything in England, both large and more recently small, you can no longer have a negative impact on the biodiversity of England. In fact, you now have to actually increase it by 10% minimum. The idea is to boost the natural biodiversity in England and to reverse some of the extensive damage that's been done over the last few decades. Now the way to measure this is something called a biodiversity unit. The new metric is defined by various factors. Such as habitat, how size, the distinctiveness and all that sort of thing. But basically what happens is developers will be told, look, you're gonna be doing X amount of damage for this. You need Y amount of units to secure PAMP mission. Now, developers can either look to do this on site or they look to the newly established off-site market. And these are people like farmers, estates, local authorities, anyone with land who are looking to increase the biodiversity and sell them as units. Now what we've done at Gaia is we have built a natural asset exchange that allows you to buy and sell those units easily. So for sellers, it's fantastic. It's a piece of cell they're listing about how to individually go out all the possible buyers, where developers perspective, they can log on and very quickly find exactly what they need. And so that is why we've done what we've had and looking forward to seeing how it will progresses.
