Mandatory Biodiversity Net Gain was introduced for major developments on 12 February 2024. As of 2 April 2024, developments of 1-9 dwellings will now have the same requirement. It is suggested that around 30,000 planning applications a month will now be subject to this new requirement, therefore impacting a scheme’s overall viability. BIODIVERSITY NET GAIN CALCULATIONS FOR PLANNING APPLICATIONS Since 2nd April 2024 all new planning proposals in England must adhere to Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) conditions.
