The industry is undergoing an epoch-level change. I shared this a few months back and reading Ryan, Chris and Sheloman’s thoughts on all this recently has me reposting it: Games as a Platform - and the accompanying tools that come with it - have completely changed the calculus for players and how they decide to spend their time. All of these waves exist at once for players and the biggest earns the biggest share of their time and money. #liveservice #gamepublishing #videogameindustry #gamedevelopment

Wishlists are an important metric for #PCgames so of course Simon Carless and GameDiscoverCo took a good look at who helped boost their numbers after Summer Game Fest and Steam Next Fest. One thing to note: there's a few obvious titles not listed here that had huge viewership and engagement during the summer-palooza of #gamemarketing that are most assuredely "console-first" games. An additional note: Three of the biggest titles listed here, Black Myth: Wuking, Once Human and Delta Force: Hawk Ops (from TiMi Studio Group) are developed by Chinese #gamedevelopers. #gamepublishing

Cue massive not well thought out over reaction to this news in 3...2..1... The best part, this spastic overreaction will come from `Leaders`, many of whom have come flooding into the industry over the last 5 years. The same people who mandated a Live Service Game as being part of their portfolios with 0 interest in Player desires. The same people who have been told over and over by Industry Veterans that the Live Service market is over saturated, and these types of games carry a heavy ongoing operational cost. I hear a certain mantra all the time while I am on the startup grind. Be passionate about your customers and your product to be successful. Well, there are many leaders currently in control of the industry who embrace a different way. That way is total and utter contempt & disdain for Players and Developers. I am no genius, but that doesn't seem like the path to success to me. TL:DR A F2P Live Service game is basically taking out a payday loan to buy lottery tickets. #Gamedev #VideoGames #LiveServiceDelusions #PlayersFirst
