Great refresher on OKR (Objectives and Key Results) from John Doerr and Daniel McGinn’s conversation, a system standing through the test of time… • Objectives are what we want to have accomplished, are bold and aspirational; Key Results are how we’re going to get it done, are aggressive, but measureable, time-bound, and limited in number • Have only two to five objectives; and three or so key results - This requires rigor to define what really matters • Watch-out: Coupling OKR with bonus / promotion may lead to sandbagging and avoid the risk-taking culture needed PS. I have tried to adopt the OKR method during the last year, and I have followed it with curiosity for at least five years. Last year, at Woolman, we started to put it into practice both with our customers and in our operations. First observations: - OKR seems easy, but it's HARD - It isn't easy to set the right objectives and measurable key results When OKR seems easy, we get lost looking for an OKR tool when we should invest more in successful implementation, support, senior management commitment, and tenacity. A tool is needed, but it is only helpful if the onboarding is successful. - OKR is easily confused with operational metrics (KPI) and their monitoring. - TOP-DOWN is the first mistake. The fundamental mistake is not to allocate time to work for OKR. At least 20% of the time of those whose task is to get the results ready are needed. The journey continues, and results are produced. So far, this is the best method for bringing about significant changes and results in an organization regardless of size. https://lnkd.in/dZq9Gs65

If you’re considering or implementing a transformative product or business approach with practical goal-setting and performance improvement in mind, John Doerr’s ‘Measure What Matters’ is a must-read. I’ve introduced the powerful concept of Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) and implemented the framework within my team, and I would really have loved to have this book as a guide years ago when I led product and business initiatives. Here are a few important pointers: · You need a solid, clear strategy · Share the strategy throughout the organization so that it is understood by everyone (mission, vision, etc) · Give it time, minimum 6 months · Define what success means · Get comfortable with failing · Don’t create OKRs for more than coming quarter · Less is more - the fewer OKRs you have, the better · Launch the OKR program in small group, then scale What are your experiences with implementing the OKR Framework, and what have you learned? Have you managed to maintain it? At what scale are you currently running it? (team, department, etc.) #OKRFramework #OKRImplementation #PerformanceImprovement #BusinessTransformation #JohnDoerr #StrategicPlanning #ProductStrategy #ContinuousImprovement #LeadershipJourney

I have recently become more and more interested in OKRs and how using this methodology can drive success in a startup... 🎉 ... but you really have to use it. 👊 Here are a few tips: - Don't use project completions as company objectives; they are results. Instead, ask yourself what you are trying to achieve by completing such projects. 🎯 - "You can release many features and products, but if they don't solve a business need, you have achieved nothing." 🙅♂️ Find out what you really need on a large scale and stick to it for at least three months. 🗓️ - Have weekly check-ins with your teams, preferably on Mondays. 🗓️ Do not lose sight of confidence levels in your quarterly KRs. 📈 This can give you room to react and make adjustments. 🛠️ - Not all teams or individuals in an organization can work toward KRs directly. 👥 Some teams can only support those that do. 🤝 Adapt your strategy to provide frictionless communication with those that need to be supported. 🗣️ - Teams and employees are human, and humans need real connections to communicate better and be more effective. 🤝❤️ - One OKR per business model should be hard enough to achieve but not impossible, so don't try to achieve more than one. 🙅♂️ If you do, it probably means they are not difficult enough. 🤔 Query your teams about how confident they feel about achieving those KRs and aim for 50% confidence. 🎯 There is plenty of information online about OKRs, but before applying anything to your workflow, remember that each project and team is different. 💡📝 Have a good cycle! #OKRs #StartupSuccess #GoalSetting #Teamwork #Productivity #BusinessStrategy #Leadership #Collaboration #EffectiveTeams #WorkplaceCulture #Innovation #Motivation
