Magnolias came about at the beginning of flowering plant evolution Also called living fossils, they have been unchanged ever since This species has about 50 individuals left - it would be devastating to lose them… after so long… What YOU can do: grow magnolia from seed - comment for a video on that! Biodiversity reminders, day #339 (-110)🌍🗓❗️ Huagaimu Status: critically endangered Geographic range: evergreen broad-leaved forests, one location in southern China (along the Vietnamese border) Threats: ⚠ logging ⚠ habitat destruction ⚠ poor natural regeneration #climateaction #biodiversity #endangeredspecies

It is of particular interest the subject of CO2 starvation as the quantity in our planet is negligible and efforts to reduce it may destroy all the flora and in consequence all fauna that include ourselves.

Nyiragongo: The Congo basin Youth for climate Organization, in collaboration with CJCN-DC asbl, AYICC - DRC, DYCVOPA, FUDEI, MM, OVG, the environmental commission of the youth parliament of North Kivu launched the second phase of the project to reforest villages in the territory of Nyiragongo, buried by the eruption of the NYIRAGONGO volcano in 2021. As a reminder, the eruption of the Nyiragongo volcano had ravaged a large part of the territory of Nyiragongo, more precisely the Buhené district in 2021, leaving enormous damage. All the houses, fields, trees, animals had been swept away and buried by the Nyiragongo volcano. Our project aims to restore and recreate the ecosystem in this area affected by the volcano. To achieve our objective, we plant the trees in the area concerned, we also distribute the trees to the population of this area so that everyone can plant a tree in their plot. During the first phase of the project we had planted 5000 seedlings, we are happy because we are seeing the good evolution of these. During this second phase again we plan to plant more than five thousand seedlings in all the villages of the territory of Nyiragongo. We call on the population of Nyiragongo to take ownership of this project because it is very useful for their life in this volcanic zone. We call on all people and organizations of good will to support us to restore nature and biodiversity in this area which had lost all its biodiversity during the volcano. #reforestation #CongoBasin #Congobasinforest

#grrf Special Day Update Global Records & Reference Organization 25 April- World Penguin Day World Penguin Day, on April 25 aims to raise awareness about these flightless birds to preserve their species so that future generations get to see these elegant and remarkable creatures. This day coincides with the annual northern migration of Adélie penguins, a pattern that is inherent and conserved across generations. There are eight species native to Antarctica. Most penguins are monogamous and have unique calls to assist them to find their mates in large groups. Most species lay up to two eggs in a season while the King and Emperor penguins lay only one. Alarmingly though, of the 18 known living species, 10 have been listed as endangered. Happy World Penguin Day! #grrf #penguin #worldpenguinday #climate #environment

The sound of silence. Loss of intensity and diversity of noises in ecosystems reflects an alarming decline in healthy biodiversity. Sounds of the natural world are rapidly falling silent and will become “acoustic fossils” without urgent action to halt environmental destruction, international experts have warned. #GenerationRestoration #ForNature #Biodiversity #PeopleForWildlife https://lnkd.in/e8fa7gWR

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗗𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗱𝗮 𝗛𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗕𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀?🐻❄️ Polar bears are iconic symbols of the Arctic and are particularly vulnerable to climate change. The melting of sea ice, crucial for their hunting and survival, poses a significant threat to polar bear populations. National Polar Bear Day which is on February 27 aims to educate people about the impacts of climate change, the loss of sea ice, and the importance of preserving the Arctic ecosystem. 🪴Canada wants our ecology to be more stable. National Fossil Day: Internationally, fossils are discovered & have helped in studying past species & their food, ecosystem & compare them to present ones. Animals are an indispensable part of biodiversity. When excavating fossils use the correct tools, personal protective equipment, collect it properly, be aware of your surroundings, use gps, & so forth.

The 2nd opening of the Munje octopus fishery closure came bearing 268kg of catch, which is a drop from the previous opening catch of 649kg, heavy clouds, and a plethora of learning. 1. Seasons: April marks the beginning of strong Southeast Monsoon winds, which contributed to fewer low tide hours, reducing gleaning time from the intended 3 to 2 hours each day and deposition of sediments from a nearby bridge under construction into the closure area, clogging most octopus habitat and forcing them to relocate to cleaner areas. 2. Climate change urgency: April 2024 saw record high ocean temperature of 33°C, prompting octopus migration to cooler waters & mass coral bleaching. These hurdles, albeit being anticipated, come as a blow to this conserving community, whose drive to conserve has only grown stronger and are now more eager to explore restoration measures to protect their area from looming biodiversity loss. "Coral reefs" are often called the rainforests of the sea, both because of the vast number of species they harbor and the high productivity they yield. Reefs support extraordinary biodiversity. Their structures play an important role as natural breakwaters, minimizing wave impacts from storms such as cyclones, hurricanes, and typhoons. Carbon dioxide absorbed into the ocean from the atmosphere has already begun to reduce calcification rates in reef-building and reef-associated organisms by altering seawater chemistry through decreases in pH. This process is called "Ocean Acidification". #oceanacidification #coral #reef #globalwarming #sealevelrise
