Physical/Kinetic attacks are done to “send messages” that can be transmitted through social media outlets within seconds and a tweet can both send stock markets crashing and ignite insurrections. These modern campaigns seamlessly weave between these dimensions and fighting forces that cannot bring the various expertise needed will be at a significant disadvantage. When asked about what the private sector's responsibility is to the public sector in the #OSINT space, Daniel Clemens, CEO of ShadowDragon, talked about due diligence and the process of rooting out, or exposing adversarial capital or companies with ties with adversarial nation-states. This is an issue that has grown in the last several years as dual-use technology in the consumer space has drawn outsized interest from United States Department of Defense and Office of the Director of National Intelligence. Adversarial nation-states have invested start-up capital in small, dual-use companies in an effort to neutralize them when seeking DOD or intelligence community (IC) contracts. When the due diligence is conducted by the DOD or IC, companies are often-times disqualified for having adversarial nation-state funding (adversarial capital). One of the key lessons we’ve learned from hybrid warfare: democratic societies, due to their openness, are inherently more vulnerable to influence campaigns compared to those under authoritarian regimes. We have much more to share from our experience in modern hybrid warfare, and honored to present our findings at FIC North America. This year’s forum, dedicated to Cybersecurity in the Age of AI, will gather 5,000 experts from around the world on October 29-30 in Montreal. Our CEO, Sviatoslav Hnizdovskyi , will take the stage in the Trust & Safety track with a talk on Cognitive Resilience as a New Domain of Cyber Resilience: Lessons from 280+ Counter-Influence Operations during the Russo-Ukrainian War.
