As we observe Black History Month, it is crucial to reflect on the profound contributions made by our elders in rebuilding the country, spanning various fields from nursing and transportation to art, music, and culture. However, the legacies of painful racism and scandals like Windrush persist in 2024, underscoring the ongoing struggle against systemic inequalities. Throughout history, the racial disparities faced by Black individuals within the justice system have been well-documented, highlighting the system's role in perpetuating racism and oppression. As Alicia Garza aptly stated, racism is a mechanism for certain groups to uphold power at the expense of others. This month serves as a time to honor achievements, acknowledge struggles, and recognize that the fight for justice and equality extends beyond a single month. It is imperative for all of us to dedicate ourselves to creating a future characterized by equality, peace, and respect for all, ensuring justice and fairness prevail. #BlackHistoryMonth #Equality #Justice #Inclusion

On June 19, 1865, enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, finally received word of their freedom, marking a monumental step towards justice and equality in the United States. However, it’s crucial to remember that this joyous news came more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. Amplifying Black Fathers/Male Carers Voices in Special Needs Discussions I am running a focus group for Black Equity Organisation on the experiences of Black parents/carers to share their experiences of raising children with special needs. Although I am really pleased with the response, it has also highlighted a broader issue: the noticeable absence of voices from Black fathers/male carers. We know that the voices of Black parents/carers in the SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) community are not being heard; they are almost invisible. The focus group is being run to address this lack of representation. At the same time, studies have shown that Black fathers are deeply involved and engaged with their children, including those with special needs. Yet, their perspectives and experiences are often overlooked in research and support networks meaning they go unrepresented. https://lnkd.in/eGERwUzX I am calling on Black fathers to join our focus group and share their stories. I would appreciate some support from my network to let Black fathers know that this space is for them too. If anyone knows of any support networks for Black Fathers please do let me know. #SEND #SpecialNeeds #BlackFathers #Inclusion #Diversity #Parenting
