❓How do we bring young people into public consultation projects such as West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s proposed new mass transit system? 🚊We focused on raising awareness of mass transit, exploring the careers and opportunities that mass transit will bring to the area, and discussing topics that may affect different communities such as accessibility, sustainability, safety and reliability. 💬🗨️This opened up great conversations about what young people want to see from mass transit. It also allowed them to see behind the scenes the different roles, people and companies that work together to bring a new project like this to life. ⬇️Want more insights from young people on mass transit? Following our commission as a business case development partner in 2022, we are continuing our work with West Yorkshire Combined Authority, as their newly appointed Programme Development Partner for their Mass Transit Portfolio. Once complete, the Mass Transit will be a new, fully integrated world-class transport system helping deliver a greener, better-connected West Yorkshire. In partnership with Anturas and WSP, we will utilise our extensive experience in transport and light rail development and delivery across project management, programme advisory, commercial management, information management and project controls to set up and drive successful integration and delivery of the portfolio. Clare Wood, Director, Infrastructure, UK said: “We’re delighted to extend our scope of work on this significant portfolio for the region of West Yorkshire. Upon completion, the Mass Transit Network will improve an individual’s ability to connect with family, communities, employers, education, and healthcare facilities.” Read more: https://bit.ly/3SF6rdc #transport #infrastructure #masstransit #yorkshire

💡 Thanks for flagging the Planning Hub Caroline Brown in the Programme for Government. Its aim is to ‘build capacity and resilience, and to improve consistency and efficiency in decision-making’ with an initial focus on hydrogen applications then moving on to housing and onshore wind. 💫 At Planning Aid Scotland we stand ready to bring our community engagement and planning expertise to support the success of what the Planning Hub aims to achieve. 🗣️ Good community engagement is crucial to inclusive participation in the planning system and to getting the best decisions and places for our communities. If we don’t get this right, delay and disillusionment will only get worse. ❓Interesting to note the Planning Hub sits between references to Regional Economic Partnerships and Community Wealth Building. The Hub will no doubt aim to be plugged into the regions and local communities in the context of the need for a Local Government funding model that is sustainable, empowering and benefits the communities it serves. #planninghub #community #empowerment #engagement
Scottish political news has been fairly gloomy this week, but it's very good to see the creation of a new Planning Hub set out in the Programme for Government. I am delighted to see some innovative thinking about ways to support planning authorities and lever in additional resources. Hydrogen might not be the obvious place to start, but the limited scope will make the Hub easier to set up and get going. And, in the face of pressure for delivery and change, agility is going to be important. We're pretty positive about the potential for the new Hub, and look forward to working with the Scottish Government and stakeholders in the first pilot stage. #Scotland #RTPIScotland #RTPI #PlanningMatters #ProgrammeForGovernment #ScottishGovernment

Driving Success for Nottinghamshire 🚧 We’re delighted to share the successful outcome of the public inquiry for Nottinghamshire County Council’s A614/A6097 Junctions Improvement Scheme, a project set to improve regional traffic flow and connectivity. Through expert witness support from Nigel Billingsley, Head of our National Utilities & Infrastructure Team North, and the Bruton Knowles team, critical agreements with landowners were achieved, avoiding the need for a public inquiry. This milestone showcases the importance of collaboration, preparation, and expert guidance in delivering infrastructure projects that benefit local communities. #Infrastructure #ExpertWitness #CompulsoryPurchase

#ICYMI: We published the Blueprint for Regional Mobility: 5-Year Refresh, an update of the region’s first employer-led transportation agenda from Baltimore to Richmond for an equitable, innovative and seamless superregional transportation network that enhances economic competitiveness and quality of life. Recognizing major shifts since the original publication in 2018, we’ve identified priorities that reflect today’s regional landscape and ongoing discussions with cross-sector stakeholders: 1️⃣ Implement sustainable funding for regional transit agencies, including Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) and Maryland Department of Transportation MTA; 2️⃣ Advance the Red Line light rail project in Baltimore; 3️⃣ Restore Washington, D.C. as a world-class passenger rail hub through the Washington Union Station Expansion Project and the new Long Bridge; 4️⃣ Restore Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge; 5️⃣ Support transit-oriented development and economically competitive land uses; and 6️⃣ Facilitate employer signaling on infrastructure investments.
