We are officially half way through the school year. Where has the time gone? I for one love the rhythm and cycle of the school year. A lot of the students I work will be preparing for mock exams after half term. Others may be deciding on their GCSE options or 6th form options. Lots of decisions to make and not every student will find those choices easy. I think if you already know what you want to do then it's easy. I knew I wanted to study science and probably go to Uni. But having that clarity is rare so the advice I give students is do something you love to do. Not easy at the GCSE level because there are so many subjects you have to do and most students don't love them all. Likewise school holidays should be a time for rest and fun. The brain needs a holiday too and a refreshed student is one that will do better than a tired one. What do you think? #schoolholidays #GCSE #Alevels #education #learning

Yale University will no longer be test optional ❗❗ Yale is the 2nd Ivy to require test scores and will require standardized testing for students applying for admission starting in the fall of 2025. During the period when Yale was test optional, they had a 6% admit rate for students who submitted scores whereas they only had a 2% admit rate for students who did not submit scores. Yale's policy is a little different. The new requirement will be considered "test-flexible policy", which means that students can submit one of the 4 options: 1. ACT 2. SAT 3. Advanced Placement (AP) 4. International Baccalaureate (IB) You can check out the link for more information on their policy 👉

3 ways to help your child deal with GCSE stress ⬇️ Especially in year 11, the GCSE workload can overwhelm many students. These 3 tips will help you support your child through their GCSE preparation and give them the best chance at success: 1) Encourage them to start revision early May, when GCSE exams begin, might feel far away now, but will come around quickly. By starting revision early, your child can ensure they cover everything they need to in time and avoid some of the last-minute scrambling. 2) Support them to create a revision plan With so many subjects to study for, a plan of when and what your child is going to study is key. So nudge them to create their own revision plan and then help them to refine it. This can take whatever form your child likes. But having a plan will make sure things get done. 3) Introduce past papers early on This will help your child get comfortable with the types of questions they’ll see in an exam, meaning it won’t be so much of an adjustment when it comes to their real exams. Want to help your child overcome their GCSE Maths struggles and improve their grades? Reach out to me for a free consultation to see how I can help. #StudentSuccess #GCSE #Tutoring #Tuition #ExamSuccess

Hard Work + Dedication = Success 🎓 In December, just months before GCSE exams, we ran higher-level Maths tests to see if some foundation students could move up. One student, who had been doing foundation, scored a 6, and we decided to give him the chance to tackle higher-level Maths. We made it clear to him—if you want to succeed, you must put in the extra work to cover the content in the limited time available. And he did just that. He attended every intervention, after-school session, and even came during lunch and breaks to ask questions and work on his weaknesses. His effort paid off: he scored a grade 8 in GCSE Maths! 🎉 This was the result of relentless hard work and never giving up. It’s a powerful reminder that the grind leads to greatness. This is a key lesson many students and parents need to remember: while teachers and tutors are there to support, it’s the student’s dedication and effort that drives success. The path to achievement isn’t easy, but with hard work, the reward is always worth it. 💪📚 #HardWorkPaysOff #StudentSuccess #Education #GrowthMindset #Maths #GCSE

Learning to Learn: UCAS figures show over 418,000 UK 18 year olds have applied to university or college this year. With just a few short months to the new academic year, what wider benefits can prospective undergraduates expect from their university experience? In part five of THE Higher Education Learning Framework (HELF) writers from the University of Queensland explore how, through deconstructing the thought processes that occur during learning, students understand how they learn and therefore learn more effectively. Students often enter higher education having been well supported and scaffolded in their formal school environments, but might not have the skills needed for successful independent learning. By supporting students to develop learning strategies and self-regulation capabilities, educators can help them to develop higher order thinking, with powerful benefits for achievement, engagement and motivation. Here’s how in 7 steps… https://lnkd.in/eUMQyA3V #THE #highereducation #university #learning #achievement #engagement #evaluation
