Amazon Web Services (AWS) is set to invest €7.8 billion into the AWS European #Sovereign Cloud, with plans to launch by the end of 2025. This new cloud region will be located in Brandenburg, Germany, and aims to cater to public sector organizations and highly regulated industries across Europe, providing them with greater control and flexibility over their data. The AWS European Sovereign Cloud will feature the same robust infrastructure, #security, and #performance as existing AWS regions. It will enable customers to comply with stringent European #data residency requirements and meet unique sovereignty needs. This initiative underscores AWS's commitment to innovation and customer empowerment, ensuring secure, high-performing #cloud solutions tailored for Europe. https://lnkd.in/gvFnGmRa #Cloud #Europe #Resilience #GDPR #Privacy

Amazon Web Services (AWS) recently announced that it will be removing egress fees when migrating data to another cloud provider or on-premises. This move follows Google Cloud’s announcement in January to eliminate egress fees, leaving Microsoft Azure as the last major cloud provider without a zero egress fee policy. Unlike Google, AWS doesn’t have the same caveats, and it won’t require the customer to fully exit, close their account, or change their relationship. However, AWS requires a 60-day exit, full removal of all data and workloads, and cautions that repeated requests for migration away from AWS will face “additional scrutiny.” This is good news for businesses who have been looking to switch cloud providers. These decisions also follow provisions set out in the European Data Act which came into force in January, designed to promote competition by allowing cloud customers to switch providers more easily — either to an entirely different cloud; through adopting a multi-cloud approach; or pulling all their data back in-house to an on-premises infrastructure. #cloud #aws #azure #gcp #data #datatransfer #europeandataact

Multi-cloud strategy now makes more sense. Lack of technical interoperability however could still make it hard to move data between cloud providers.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud consider it important that customers' have the ability to move provider or adopt a #multicloud strategy. Interesting… And, #AWS and #GoogleCloud are in agreement, despite their different market positions, that egress fees are a non-issue. Amazingly interesting… I wonder if you think the same? #Azure #Cloud #Cloudcomputing

“Amazon’s cloud computing subsidiary AWS has revealed that it will allow customers to transfer their data out of its ecosystem with no so-called “egress fees” attached” My take: Microsoft will follow suit. I’m seeing a change in approach to public cloud, from public cloud is the only answer, to the more nuanced, align the workload with the best computing/storage platform. Key to have an enterprise strategy to ensure you keep it as simple as possible. #publiccloud
