I’m seeing a change in approach to public cloud, from public cloud is the only answer, to the more nuanced, align the workload with the best computing/storage platform. Multi-cloud strategy now makes more sense. Lack of technical interoperability however could still make it hard to move data between cloud providers.

Interesting update by the Competition and Markets Authority on the state of the UK's Cloud market. "The UK cloud market is booming, with revenues more than doubling in just three years, but the market is consolidating around Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure." "Microsoft captured about 60-70% of new customers in both 2021 and 2022. AWS, on the other hand, only managed to secure 20-30% of new customers during the same period." If you are on a multi-Cloud environment and might have been longed to consolidate them into one single Cloud for whatever reasons: to reduce ops overhead, to simplify tech stack or simply to reduce the data movement etc., there is always a roadblock: almost all Cloud providers charge a signicant fee for data egress. It was reported that Apple paid 50 million for data transfer in one year. Google made an interesting announcement today that they will stop charging the egress fee if customers want to migrate data off GCP. Do Google really want their customers to leave?
