I have been utilizing and maximizing Tableau containers in building my dashboards at work but I have learned and appreciated it more during today's Next Level Tableau session with Andy Kriebel. Thanks, Andy and NLT-mates for the productive learning session! 🤗🙏🏼 #NLT #Tableau #containers

🎉 And the results are in... 🎉The best type of Analytics Engineering job opportunity is 🥁 Last week, I posted a poll to uncover the most attractive type of Analytics Engineering role. Here's what you all had to say: 1️⃣ The first data hire — capturing the logic around the business and setting up the data foundations and stack: 37% 2️⃣ Joining an established data team with a mature stack — typically growth or replacement hires: 34% 3️⃣ Joining a data team that's new to the modern data stack or Analytics Engineering: 28% Are you surprised by these results? 🤔 I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments! 💬 #DataAnalytics #AnalyticsEngineering #DataCareers #PollResults #DataTeam #ModernDataStack

🤔 Do you want the simplest speed tip ever for Tableau? ✔️ Accept the default fonts. 🙊 I'd like to be able to say that I've never had a customer suggest, let alone specify, a particular font, but I'd be lying. But generally, although they may ask for it to be larger, smaller, bolder, or a different color, they don't say, "This would look much better in Helvetica!" 💭 Keep in mind, I am not working in publishing or creating online presentations for the general public… My customers tend to be executives or business analysts, not designers of marketing materials. 🔧 If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Another option is to create a template workbook with the font you want under Format > Workbook. Try to stick to a single one, even if you use 3 or 4 different sizes and bolding. 🏗→🧠 Build to Learn! 💭🚶♀️🚶♂️ Follow for more. #tableau #data #analytics #VizoftheRay

Snowflake isn’t powerful unless your GTM teams are actually using the data. And, the truth is, most GTM professionals don’t write SQL themselves. So, you either have a long backlog of requests that will be delivered too late or analysis that needs to be done that just isn’t happening. Watch Qualified's most recent webinar to see how your business users can access your Snowflake data solo – right inside the environment they’re comfortable in, their spreadsheet. 19-minutes of actionable learnings: https://lnkd.in/g23zREPj #Operations #GTM #Snowflake #DataAnalysis #GoogleSheets #Excel

The flexibility of Tableau's interactivity separates it from every other tool. You can build this with only a couple of parameter actions. Want to learn how we built it in yesterday's Next-Level Tableau class? Comment "parameter action" and I'll reach out. See it in action → https://lnkd.in/gwE3kGCq

I've written before that titles are meaningless in data and all that matters is your capabilities. Here's a deeper explanation... I've been a VP with zero reports. I've been a Director with 100 data people reporting to me while owning the P&L of a nine-figure data business. "Lower" title, but way more actual responsibility. There are people who get a senior data title after 12 months of work experience. I know a "Senior Manager" who ran data strategy at a >$50 billion company, after previously leading data strategy at a >$100 billion company. And countless other examples... This is why in data, anyone competent will calibrate your seniority based on your actual capabilities, achievements and impact - not based on your title.

** Any Databricks based Data Engineering Guru's looking for a new opportunity? ** At Databricks Conference? :-) I am looking for a Data Engineer with deep experience (NOT KNOWLEDGE only) but real world practical experience. Can be based in LA/NYC (2-3 days per week) or possibly 100% remote. I'd love to hear (DM me) exactly, what, where, when and how you worked with Databricks. This is a good start... I am looking for people with practical experience and not people willing to learn. We need the person to hit the ground running. Therefore priorty will be given to suitable applicants. Feel free to tag anyone. *** PLEASE NOTE *** 1. Do not expect a reply to your message - why ? I anticipate there will be an abundance of messages/emails etc and, realistically, 90%+ will not be a fit (based on experience) however I will review EVERY messsage but only reply to those I can help at this moment. 2. Its not personal, however this is conditional on your databricks experience, this is nothing to do with you as a person. #databricks #aws #dataengineering #dataengineerjobs

IMO calculation lineage is one of the most important processes to master in Tableau. How many calcs would you guess this takes? We practice lineage in every Next-Level Tableau class. And if I forget? I get told off by the class (as I should). Building the foundation is critical with any skill you learn. This is one of them. SPOILER: We build this with 2 parameters a 5 calculations. First as a table, then as a summary table, then as a chart. Last time I built something similar for a Workout Wednesday, I did it with 2 calcs. But debugging more calcs that are simpler is way more efficient in the long run.

Tableau vs. dbt: It doesn't have to be a face-off. Just ask data leader Lindsay Murphy: Oftentimes, analytics engineers using dbt become a bottleneck for data analysts, slowing down their ability to freely experiment in Tableau. At the same time, analysts become cowboys of the ‘Data Wild Wild West’—sacrificing governance and data quality to uncover new insights and opportunities for the business. We’ve asked Lindsay to propose a framework that balances freedom of analysis with governance of business logic. And more importantly, one that helps analysts and engineers work better together ♡ → Make Tableau work with dbt: https://lnkd.in/dnDSVGiD

😲 Today, VizoftheRay became VizoftheDay! 🎉After 7 years on Tableau Public and 170 workbooks, I got a #VOTD nod. I know that how-to workbooks typically don't get such recognition, so to the powers-that-be: I really appreciate the showcasing! 🔗 Link is in the comment. Check it out. I hope you find some good use cases for the approaches I outline in Quadruple-Axis Charts. 🏗→🧠 Build to Learn! 💭🚶♀️🚶♂️ Follow for more. #tableau #data #analytics #VizoftheRay

A recent article explores effective strategies for optimizing costs without sacrificing performance. Imagine you’re tasked with optimizing your Snowflake usage and you have to decide: would you prioritize adjusting warehouse sizes for efficiency, or focus on monitoring workloads to identify heavy users? Each approach comes with unique benefits and challenges. What methods have you found most successful? 🤔 How many times have you reinvented the wheel in Tableau? I thought the radial jittering in my IronViz qualifier was pretty cool. But it looks like my IronViz mentor, Samuel Parsons, had done the same thing 5 years prior. At least I settled on the same chart name as he did, so that's what it is - a radial jitter. These are good for infographics showing a distribution that concentrates around a central point. 📝 In the near future, I hope to make a simple dashboard showing three variations of this chart type, including evenly distributed dots as well as dots on the periphery. In this #makeovermonday case, I thought the idea of concentrated dots meshed well with firearms - I got the idea from seeing the bee swarms by Shangruff Raina and Sherzodbek I. Anyhow, I adjusted the worksheet size so that the output is slightly elliptical to fit well in the target image. ⚖️ I thought I'd go down the route of comparison to domestic purchases because I knew those numbers were high. They've been higher than 2022, but I used that year because it was the last year of the other range and I wanted something semi-current. 🏗→🧠 Build to Learn! 💭🚶♀️🚶♂️ Follow for more. #makeovermonday #tableau #data #analytics #VizoftheRay
