In the last 2 years, we've seen a huge number of layoffs in the tech sector. Perhaps because we turn to #Search everyday, it’s hard to remember how Google has evolved with every technological leap, transforming how information is discovered. In the #mobile era, we helped people to find results about the world around them, using better context, location awareness, and real-time information. Then, accelerations in natural language processing made it possible to use your voice to ask questions. And in a region as visual-first as Asia-Pacific, the ability to search what you see with Google Lens has been transformative. At #GoogleIO we shared how #AI is helping you search in new ways, including longer, more complex questions and even the ability to use your voice to ask questions about video. AI Overviews is our latest experiment. Using generative AI, Search can give you a quick overview of a topic together with links to go deeper. Early feedback to this experiment has been positive: people who’ve used AI Overviews use Search more, and are more satisfied with the results. #TikTok took on #Amazon with its Deals For You Days shopping event, an effort to compete with #PrimeDay in a social commerce vs. e-commerce showdown. According to Salesforce data across both events, the competition wasn't close. 👉 TikTok's Deals For You Days saw minimal participation from retailers and consumers. 👉 Sales growth was actually down 6% during TikTok’s shopping event in North America, whereas Prime Day saw a 3% increase in sales across both days. 👉 Discount rates on TikTok Shop did not measure up to consumer expectations while those during Prime Day wowed. It's still early days to determine the future of TikTok as a shopping platform, but partnering with larger brands and offering better deals could be a good start for the prolific social platform to earn its chops in the e-commerce space. Earlier today, Omnicom announced that it will be the first holding company to integrate into the new Instacart Developer Platform (IDP), a publicly available API program that leverages Instacart's industry-leading online grocery platform to supercharge third-party digital experiences.
