The CME Symposium on Mechanisms of Cellular Evolution is being organized by the Biology Integration Institute for Mechanisms of Cellular Evolution at Arizona State University. The event is scheduled to take place from November 6-9, 2024, in Tempe, AZ. The symposium is the third in a series of annual events focused on the emerging interdisciplinary field of evolutionary cell biology, ECB. Meridian's chimeric HCV antigen (Cat# BN1250) provides a cost-effective alternative to using multiple individual HCV antigens. The chimeric able to capture antibodies to multiple epitopes of HCV (core, NS3, NS4, NS5). HCV diagnosis commonly involves two stages: (1) Testing for anti-HCV antibodies with a serological test and (2) confirmation by molecular testing. Most commercial anti-HCV tests can detect seroconversion at 8 weeks and include the core antigen and antigens to NS3, NS4 and NS5 structural proteins. However, these tests require a blend of individual antigens – these antigens can have varying affinity to HCV antibodies which can cause reproducibility issues. Meridian’s new HCV chimeric contains four antigens expressed in E. coli (NS3, Core, NS4, NS5) and demonstrates high reactivity with HCV-positive serum in lateral flow assays. 🔬 A crucial discussion unfolded at #AAPSPharmSci360, as industry leaders tackled the FDA's transformative laboratory-developed test (LDT) proposed rule and its implications for biomarker testing at last month's conference in Salt Lake City.   The high-impact session, moderated by our Chief Scientific Officer, Dr. Lauren Stevenson, brought together expert perspectives from Stephen Piccoli (Sun Pharma), Patrice Hugo (IQVIA Laboratories), and Mark Ma (Rallybio).   The session revealed critical insights into the FDA's April 2024 LDT Final Rule, fundamentally reshaping how diagnostic and exploratory biomarker tests are regulated. Under this new framework, LDTs will transition from their current enforcement discretion policy to being regulated as medical devices.   The implications are significant: industry data suggests 200-400 clinical studies could face delays over the next three years, potentially affecting 30,000-45,000 patients. Happy Wednesday all! Check out this open access Cell Immunity review by Jason G. Cyster and Patrick C. Wilson, "Antibody modulation of B cell responses—Incorporating positive and negative feedback." Summary: Antibodies are powerful modulators of ongoing and future B cell responses. While the concept of antibody feedback has been appreciated for over a century, the topic has seen a surge in interest due to the evidence that the broadening of antibody responses to SARS-CoV-2 after a third mRNA vaccination is a consequence of antibody feedback. Moreover, the discovery that slow antigen delivery can lead to more robust humoral immunity has put a spotlight on the capacity for early antibodies to augment B cell responses. Here, we review the mechanisms whereby antibody feedback shapes B cell responses, integrating findings in humans and in mouse models. We consider the major influence of epitope masking and the diverse actions of complement and Fc receptors and provide a framework for conceptualizing the ways antigen-specific antibodies may influence B cell responses to any form of antigen, in conditions as diverse as infectious disease, autoimmunity, and cancer. #drugdiscovery #cancerresearch #antibodies #infectiousdisease #sarscov2 #autoimmunity #immunooncology #immunotherapy #scientificresearch
