As the CEO of #WeAllGrow Latina, I advocate weekly on behalf of Latina entrepreneurs, urging global brands to invest equitable budgets into our community. Yet too often, we find ourselves relegated to "multicultural" boxes - code for scrappy, insufficient funding. The harsh reality is this: Black and Brown founders remain the most founded yet least funded. Despite demonstrating remarkable innovation and resilience, systemic barriers continue to limit access to capital for underrepresented entrepreneurs. That's why I'm deeply grateful for partners like Capital One, who not only understand the value of investing in Latina-owned businesses but are taking actionable steps to bridge the gap. It's been a lot of talk but not a lot of deal flow this past month for #healthtech in Africa. A few of my observations from compiling today's Africa Health Ventures #newsletter: 🦥 It's been a slow month for healthtech deals in Africa. The funding winter has finally hit our corner of the world. Even so, a few stars shine in the darkness, including Malaica from Lorraine Muluka, Medikea from Elvis Silayo, MD and Desirè Ruhinda, MD, and Immobazyme from Dominic Nicholas. 💰 Development agencies recognize the need to attract private capital. IFC - International Finance Corporation is supporting Egypt to scale private sector investments to support universal health insurance. The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) will undertake a $1.5M effort to unlock $65M for Mobihealth International in Nigeria. eha Impact Ventures converted $3M debt into equity for EHA Clinics to prepare for future investment. 🗣️ On the global stage, the need for innovation and private sector partnerships were recurring topics at the recent World Health Assembly in Geneva (#WHA77) and the World Health Organization's Global Initiative on Digital Health. Black Tech Street’s new AI Center of Excellence aims to make it Tulsa the new epicenter of equitable AI. Black Tech Street is launching an AI Center of Excellence in Greenwood, Tulsa, a monumental step toward equitable AI and empowering Black communities in tech. This initiative aims to create a robust AI ecosystem, addressing historical inequities and fostering new opportunities for the future. Key highlights: ⇒  $51 million awarded to the Tulsa Hub for Equitable and Trustworthy Autonomy (THETA), with Black Tech Street as a key partner. ⇒  Goal to create 1,000 Black cyber professionals in Tulsa by 2030 through a partnership with Microsoft. ⇒  Focus on equitable AI research and development, specifically relevant to Tulsa and Black Tech Street's aspirations. ⇒  Potential to generate up to 56,000 new jobs in the region over the next decade. ⇒  Aims to establish Greenwood as the blueprint for responsible AI development across the country. "This project aims to build a holistic AI ecosystem for Historic Greenwood that can power the creation and attraction of Black AI talent, innovation, and ventures," said Tyrance Billingsley II, founder and Executive Director of Black Tech Street. "Our goal is to keep Greenwood globally competitive in the 21st Century and we see this work as a key part of how we do that.“ This initiative not only honors the legacy of Black Wall Street but also positions Tulsa at the forefront of AI innovation while prioritizing diversity and inclusion. By leveraging AI technologies, we can bridge historical inequities and create new opportunities for the future.
