‘Is AI improving businesses where it matters most—their bottom lines?’ That’s what Visual Capitalist asks in this recent new content - and I continue to wonder about the math…. (Referencing another data point here: https://lnkd.in/g6_VwJSh ) This is another recent data point that talks to surveyed/claimed/reported revenue growth by function. (Now, revenue isn’t ’bottom line’ it’s more ‘top line’, but this aside): 1. To get to bottom line, what’s the associated cost investment alongside the revenue growth. By all reports and studies I’ve seen the data, infrastructure and training investments are far from small, and likely enduring (until you move from the ‘training and learning’ era and potentially hit the era of ‘inference’) 2. Potentially, calling top and bottom line impact now is akin to (marketing speak) a focus on performance marketing - it’s too short term and early to say at the expense of the long-term; and that the true and outsized growth possible requires a longer-term, multi-year view 3. [Might be late to the game here but] my favourite brand right now is a podcast(!), Acquired (separate post) - and having just finished their NVIDIA Part III episode (https://lnkd.in/g8jygRiq ), they hypothesised: maybe AI’s benefit is a series of many tiny, tactical, micro use cases; when taken together results in large business impact. Thus it may be thinking about revenue impact in the visual to be a sum total of all of these, in the one organisation (which in totality makes the impact big) 4. In the same Acquired episode, the consensus is today AI is ‘overhyped’ and maybe there is a ceiling to the utility of AI in its current form (agents and assistants); yet at the same time it’s super early and its future potential is completely unimaginable today https://lnkd.in/gq9VRH39
