I had the opportunity to attend ‘Women in the Workplace: The Path Ahead,’ at the Commonwealth Club World Affairs in San Francisco last week. The topic was the 10th annual workplace study from McKinsey & Company and LeanIn, with the discussion led by McKinsey Senior Partner and co-founding author of the Women in the Workplace report Alexis Krivkovich. Alexis moderated a discussion with Padmasree Warrior, CEO of Fable, and Sukhinder Singh Cassidy, CEO of Xero, where all three shared their views and personal experiences on building careers for themselves and other successful women leaders.    My main takeaway was that in the 10 years that report has been published, there has been real progress in female representation in the most senior levels of companies in the executive suite and the SVP level below that; investment in this activity is starting to show progress. However, some of this progress is not repeatable because it was the product of the addition and creation of new roles in the top ranks of companies where women predominate – which is not a repeatable strategy.    At the other end of the experience scale, there has been much less movement during that same time period in elevating women into their first management roles – the ‘broken rung’ of the career ladder.  This is a clear area of opportunity to build a pipeline of women leaders for future roles.     Here is a link to the full report – I highly recommend reading it cover to cover.   We don’t want to wait decades before we get to a truly balanced workforce and we all have a part to play in advancing equality. https://lnkd.in/eyg4CYvu
