Check out this article. Anyone see an issue here? They tested 2 cultivars as their control group. TWO. There are literally thousands or hundreds of thousands of cultivars out there... What this article fails to consider is that each cultivar has unique spectrum requirements, and that a fixed spectrum fixture creates a limiting factor, as the ability to shift spectrum opens up a huge amount of crop steering capabilities. They focus exclusively on 660nm red light, which has also been shown repeatedly to cause cell elongation and tip bleaching. Further, I have no idea where they got the "The yield of flowers increases linearly with light intensity, even up to 1200 micromol/m2/s." I was speaking with Mitch Westmoreland, a researcher that worked with Dr. Bruce Bugbee at USU and was testing upwards of 2000 micromol/m2/s. Why are cannabis businesses struggling to be profitable? Indoor cannabis is ludicrously resource intensive and expensive to grow. 2000X or more the carbon footprint of comparable crops. The market goes where Curaleaf goes. It seems Curaleaf is signaling to its shareholders in a big way that Hemp isn't going anywhere. Does this mean the fight is done? Curaleaf stated that they would differentiate from the "unregulated" market. Some active measures that Curaleaf is taking to differentiate its current product portfolio from the largely unregulated hemp marketplace include: Age-gating: Selling to adults 21+ only with age confirmation, requiring verification at purchase Quality: Offering products containing only naturally derived THC from hemp Manufacturing: Made in a certified cGMP facility with high standards Labeling: Transparent package labeling listing ingredients, potency and a QR code that links customers to certificates of analysis from independent testing labs, in addition to other important product-level information. This resonates so clearly in Oklahoma as I am sure it does elsewhere nation and world wide! So many rules that have almost no impact on safety or quality that accomplish nothing except hobble and cripple folks that have put their lives on the line for this industry only to have rediculous laws imposed after they put their savings and resources on the line based on existing rules! Then the rules change mid-game to create a breaking point destroying lives by the tens of thousands and possibly millions of people and their families! All for stupid laws that create zero safety or quality improvements, eliminate zero diversion, and accomplish nothing more than governmental control and the ability to retain the industry for connected corporations! It is really kind of disgusting!

The hemp ban that has happened in various forms in many other states comes to California. As we have seen in other states, recreational hemp producers face massive financial losses, and are incentivized to smuggle their product into dispensaries. This matches evidence that synthetic d9-THC from hemp (chemically speaking cis-d9-THC) starts being detected in dispensary products. This is possible with a conversion process that can turn d8 into d9. The problem is cannabis labs cannot distinguish the natural trans-d9 from the synthetic cis-d9. Although this chemical testing is possible, only 1 laboratory that we know of can perform this analysis, leaving regulators in a difficult position to enforce on this practice. Interesting data points for the #ClimateTech / #AgriTech nerds. Global soils store 2,400 gigatons (GT) of carbon whereas the atmosphere contains only 830 GT. Every year, crops absorb about 17 GT of carbon from the atmosphere through photosynthesis, which is almost double the 9.4 GT emitted by burning fossil fuels. The vast quantity of carbon in the soil means a small-sounding 0.4% increase in soil carbon is needed to offset global fossil fuel emissions. On the other hand.. A prominent 2010 paper estimated that increased agricultural productivity from higher yields prevented up to 161 gigatons of carbon emissions since 1961. 🚨🚨PSA!!! Testing in Massachusetts has changed… all TAC & THC numbers should be coming back considerably lower than before. CHECK THE TESTING DATE! Does something seem abnormally high yet freshly tested? Is all the flower from a specific cultivator tested before April 1??🚨🚨 I really wish the Cannabis Control Commission made a concerted effort to educate the public that this MAJOR change was about to happen, and *they still can* address this by making an effort to EDUCATE CONSUMERS about rules changes, *especially* those around testing. As the cultivators we were told on April 1 new testing would be implemented which would bring all TAC & THC #s down considerably. Unfortunately the consumers here in mass have been trained to look for certain numbers, generally 30% and higher. They have not been told this change was happening from an authority on the subject, to my knowledge. This puts the dispensaries in a weird position, especially now that new testing doesn’t account for water weight. Everything should, in theory, be coming back much lower than when previously tested. Dispensaries buy what sells, and we all know that is based on TAC & THC. Does the state have a responsibility to step in and make sure everyone is playing by the same rules? 👀 Should the dispo be buying flower with abnormally high results, or are they just doing their jobs? MSOs have tons of canopy, and knew the rules were changing. They theoretically could’ve gotten lots of stuff tested prior to April 1, so they may be sitting on massive piles of flower which test above 30%. Small operators who actually run through all inventory (like the original laws made it seem we were supposed to) and who don’t lab shop get hosed by test result comparison. 🚀 Recently, I’ve noticed many well-known #Cannabisinvestors piling into #industrialhemp. And looking into the growth rates, I can see #why. The industrial hemp market is projected to grow at a CAGR of 17.29% through 2032, reaching a #whopping $25.33 billion. This #growth is driven by things like regulatory support, environmental awareness, and diverse-use applications. Indeed, last year in 2023, the U.S. dedicated 54,152 acres to hemp cultivation, valued at $712 million.
