Saildrone and NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration’s 4th annual hurricane mission was the most eventful yet, with 12 Saildrone Explorers making 16 hurricane intercepts, starting with Hurricane Beryl and ending with Hurricane Rafael. This real-time data has been integrated into the National Hurricane Center and National Weather Service's forecasting models and advisories and will be used for continuing research. “In a lot of ways, this was the most successful hurricane mission that we’ve ever had,” said Greg Foltz, an oceanographer at NOAA’s Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML).
