About us
Saildrone provides comprehensive data solutions for maritime security, ocean mapping, and ocean data. The company provides real-time access to critical data from any ocean on earth, 24/7/365, and uses proprietary software applications to transform that data into actionable insights and intelligence. Saildrone’s fleet of uncrewed surface vehicles (USVs), powered by renewable wind and solar power, have a minimal carbon footprint and are designed to make ocean intelligence cost-effective at scale. Saildrones operate 24/7/365, without the need for a crewed support vehicle, and have sailed 1M nautical miles from the Arctic to the Antarctic and spent 32,000+ days at sea in the harshest ocean conditions on the planet.

Saildrone and Thales joined in strategic partnership this year to integrate the Thales BlueSentry thin-line towed array with Saildrone Surveyor-class uncrewed surface vehicles (USVs) for autonomous anti-submarine warfare (ASW) missions. “This opportunity with Saildrone now represents the ability to expand that support to include our latest innovations in the field of undersea surveillance through the BlueSentry thin line array system. The Saildrone Surveyor offers a unique capability within the field of USVs, and Thales looks forward to the opportunity of contributing to the impressive maritime domain awareness capability of the platform,” said Troy Stephen, Vice President Underwater Systems, Thales Australia and New Zealand. Stay tuned for the results of the project. Read the announcement: https://lnkd.in/gjc-mr_W

Saildrone and NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration’s 4th annual hurricane mission was the most eventful yet, with 12 Saildrone Explorers making 16 hurricane intercepts, starting with Hurricane Beryl and ending with Hurricane Rafael. This real-time data has been integrated into the National Hurricane Center and National Weather Service's forecasting models and advisories and will be used for continuing research. “In a lot of ways, this was the most successful hurricane mission that we’ve ever had,” said Greg Foltz, an oceanographer at NOAA’s Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML). Saildrone filled a substantial data gap surveying 1,500 square nm of seafloor in an area of the Gulf of Maine that had never been mapped in high resolution. Accurate ocean depths and topography are essential for resource management and responsibly developing and maintaining coastal infrastructure. At 20 m long, the Saildrone Surveyor is the largest autonomous, wind-powered ocean drone optimized for long-range, long-endurance ocean mapping and maritime security. First launched earlier this year, this week we celebrate 5 Surveyors on operational missions for the first time. 👏 Read more about The New Surveyor: https://lnkd.in/gJKaGTW9

Saildrone has been selected to map Florida’s coastal waters in the Gulf of Mexico as part of the Florida Seafloor Mapping Initiative, a multiyear effort to provide statewide stakeholders with accessible, high-quality, and high-resolution seafloor data of Florida’s coastal waters within the continental shelf. “Mapping the Florida coastline is vital for understanding our dynamic coastal environments, supporting sustainable resource management, and enhancing resilience against extreme weather events,” said Brian Connon, Saildrone VP Ocean Mapping. Saildrone's Brian Connon was proud to participate in The White House's Ocean Research Advisory Panel yesterday. He discussed the importance of public/private partnerships and how mechanisms like Cooperative Research and Development Agreements (CRADA) have enabled Saildrone and NOAA to innovate collaboratively. #ORAP #EmergingOceanTech

NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration released the 2024 Global Carbon Budget, which evaluates the amount of carbon in the atmosphere, ocean, and land, and how much of it is human-produced due to fossil fuel emissions and other human activities. There are gaps to close in the measurement of the ocean carbon sink, especially in extreme conditions and hard-to-reach areas like the Southern Ocean. “There are several places in the ocean where the lack of observations, especially in the winter, may have an impact on observation-based estimates. We have been working with modelers to emphasize how these seasonal differences impact ocean carbon sink estimates in the regions where we don’t have enough data,” said Richard Feely, a Senior Scientist and Chemical Oceanographer at Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory (PMEL). Equipped with NOAA PMEL’s ASVCO2 sensors, Saildrone USVs have gathered carbon data from the Tropical Pacific, to the Antarctic, and proposes that sustained global monitoring in remote, under-sampled regions will be critical to improving estimates of the Global Carbon Budget.
