The client was asking for a compelling fundraising campaign at a school that had a tumultuous history. The project called for a total campaign including both print and digital elements. Since its September 2013 launch, the Legacy Fund Campaign raised over $1.5M dollars, earning more in the last six months than the seminary had raised in the previous six years combined.

Rather than creating a brochure filled with bragging points, we attempted to translate historic nostalgia into a desire to support current students’ experiences and stories.

The Legacy Fund won Silver in the Collegiate Advertising Awards for 2013, competing against a number of other schools and institutions around the United States.

The booklet helps possible donors understand their place in the history of Midwestern Seminary, celebrating the best aspects of the schools history and concluding with a place for the donor to make their mark in the timeline (both visually and literally). The content had to carefully avoid sales language while still motivating possible donors. Student stories were captured and put into print and also captured in video.

The brochure provides viewers with the option to fill out a physical donation card or make an online donation at the Legacy Fund site. The website uses the fundraising tool Rainmaker to facilitate easy payment.

In the weeks after a mass brochure mailing, a series of emails are sent (one for each of the three student testimonials), touching base with potential donors and driving traffic to the donation site.

A condensed version of the brochure was featured in the seminary’s biannual magazine in attempt to reach a large audience of potential donors and raise campaign awareness. The piece was also featured in the seminary’s digital publication for iPad, allowing for in-app donations.
